A major drug bust occurred at the Tincan Island Port in Lagos on Wednesday, December 18, when authorities intercepted a container containing 180,000 bottles of codeine syrup. The consignment, which originated from Mundra, India, was uncovered during a joint operation involving the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigeria Customs Service, Department of State Services (DSS), the police, and other security agencies at the port.
The illicit cargo was discovered following a thorough examination of the container, leading to the detention of a suspect identified as Makata Emmanuel, the consignee and notify party of the shipment. Emmanuel was immediately taken into custody for questioning.
This seizure highlights the ongoing efforts by Nigerian authorities to curb the illicit trafficking of controlled substances into the country.
