Nigerian actress Kiitan Bukola has opened up about the emotional struggles she faced growing up and how they have shaped her views on marriage and family life. In a candid interview with Biola Bayo, Bukola revealed that although she deeply cherishes the idea of marriage, she harbors significant fears surrounding it due to her childhood experiences.
The actress, who expressed a strong desire to provide a stable and loving home for her future children, shared that her apprehensions about marriage stem from the absence of her father during her upbringing. She revealed that her father had several children, many of whom she had never met, with some connections only made through online platforms. Bukola explained how the lack of paternal care and affection had left a lasting impact on her, shaping her desire for a different family experience for her own children.
Reflecting on her past, she shared, "I love marriage but at the same time, I am scared of it. Because I don’t want a situation whereby I will have my kids outside wedlock. There are some of my father’s children that I don’t know. The funny thing is I met some online. I didn’t have a father’s care the way I wanted it like I wanted that parental love – father, and mother together. Let me enjoy my home. It hurts me most of the time because I didn’t really enjoy it.”
Bukola also took the opportunity to discuss her humble beginnings, recalling how she hawked pounded yam and efo soup at Sabo in Ondo State as a child. Her personal revelations offer a deeper insight into the emotional challenges she continues to navigate as she strives to break the cycle and create a nurturing, supportive environment for her future family.
