Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have made a significant drug bust on Christmas Eve, seizing nearly two tons of illicit cannabis at Eleko Beach in Lagos.
At approximately 2:30 am on December 24, NDLEA’s Marine Command intercepted two boats carrying a total of 1,960 kilograms of “Ghanaian Loud,” a potent strain of cannabis. The operation, carried out at the Lekki-based beach, led to the arrest of six foreign nationals involved in the smuggling operation.
The agency's spokesperson, Mr. Femi Babafemi, confirmed in a statement that the arrested individuals included two Ghanaians—Godsway John (38) and Freedom Kelvin (33)—as well as four Beninese nationals: Chegoun Hounsou (23), Gadabor Nyameto (47), Adantg Sasa (34), and Ayao Kayivi (21).
This successful bust marks another significant effort by the NDLEA in curbing the influx of illicit drugs into Nigeria, particularly from neighboring countries. The arrested suspects have been taken into custody as investigations continue.
