A convicted human trafficker, Uadiale Christiana Jacob—also known as Christy Evan Osagie or "Christy Gold"—was arrested at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on December 31, 2024, upon her arrival from Dubai.
Jacob, a key figure in an international human trafficking network operating primarily in the Middle East with a base in Dubai, had been on the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP)'s wanted list for five years.
She was initially arrested by NAPTIP in Ikpoba Hill area, Benin City on the 13th of October 2020 for her involvement in the trafficking of underaged Nigerian girls to Dubai, United Arab Emirates for forced prostitution and was granted bail after being charged in November 2020.
However, she violated her bail terms and fled to Dubai, leading to a bench warrant for her arrest in November 2021.
In March 2024, she was convicted in absentia by the Federal High Court in Asaba, Delta State, with sentencing pending upon her apprehension.
Her arrest was facilitated by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), acting on a watchlist request from NAPTIP dated February 22, 2023. NAPTIP's Director General, Binta Adamu Bello, praised the NIS for their role in Jacob's capture, highlighting the effective inter-agency collaboration. Bello also issued a warning to other members of the trafficking network still at large, emphasizing that efforts are underway to apprehend them.
Jacob's accomplices, including individuals identified as Michael Nduka, Osas Wiseman, Vivian, and a certain Prophet John in Lagos, remain at large.
These individuals are suspected of assisting in the recruitment and transfer of victims to Jacob's trafficking network.
