A man has triggered widespread reactions online after allegedly fleeing a filling station in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, without settling a fuel bill of ₦58,548.
The incident, which occurred on January 3, 2025, was shared on social media by user @Liltuffsb, who posted a video from the station's CCTV showing the suspect driving off after filling his tank.
According to the viral post, the man, driving a Honda Accord with the plate number GGE576DY, filled up his vehicle with 59.20 liters of fuel and drove away, leaving an elderly fuel attendant in financial distress.
The CCTV footage, which captures the suspect’s face and vehicle details, shows the man intentionally widening the station's gate to aid his escape.
The post reads, “A customer came to fill up his tank and zoomed off without paying. He stole ₦58,548.4 worth of fuel. The old man who sold the fuel to him is now in debt and has been in tears since the incident occurred.”
The video quickly gained traction, with many expressing outrage and sympathy for the fuel attendant, urging authorities to help identify and apprehend the thief.
As the post continues to circulate, there have been calls for heightened awareness and for justice to be served in this incident of alleged theft.
