Tragedy struck in Gargajiga town, located in Minjibir Local Government Area of Kano State, on Thursday, when a well collapsed, resulting in the death of one person and leaving two others injured but alive. The incident occurred during re-digging and repair work on the well.
The collapse, which occurred in the afternoon, involved three individuals—one inside the well and two working outside. According to a statement released by the Kano State Fire Service on Friday, the walls of the well caved in, trapping all three workers.
The distress call was made by Bashir Namadi, a local resident, prompting a swift response from the Kano State Fire Service. Emergency teams arrived at the scene around 12:20 PM and successfully rescued two individuals from the rubble. Unfortunately, one of the victims, identified as Yusuf Nadabo, a 50-year-old man, was found unconscious and was later confirmed dead at the scene.
The Fire Service confirmed that all victims were handed over to the ward head of Gargajiga for further arrangements. The incident has sparked concern in the community, highlighting the dangers associated with such unregulated repair work.
