Diezani Alison Madueke supporters have reacted to allegations of recovered assets, say they are "baseless, wicked and aimed at tarnishing her legacy"

Read the statement by Diezani's supporters below..

"Former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke has once again found herself at the center of public scrutiny as allegations of misappropriated funds and recovered assets continue to circulate. However, supporters of the former minister are adamant that these claims are "fabricated and part of a continuous deliberate campaign to malign her character and erase her contributions to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector."

Diezani Alison-Madueke, the first woman to serve as Nigeria's Minister of Petroleum Resources , first Nigerian female executive director of Shell Nigeria and the first female president of OPEC, is credited with spearheading transformative policies in the oil and gas industry. Her tenure witnessed significant strides, including the critical promotion of local content in the downstream service sector and in oil exploration and production, which empowered numerous Nigerian companies and professionals in an industry previously dominated by foreign interests. And at the same time enraged those foreign interests as monies they had hitherto been raking in, was now going to Nigerians.

Supporters state that her groundbreaking achievements and the defiant positions that she took on behalf of Nigerians, made her a clear target. "Diezani ’s work disrupted entrenched power structures in the oil sector, and this is why she’s being hounded and vilified".

She adamantly and defiantly opened up the sector to all who, as she used to say, "could fulfill the requisite laid down criteria".

Bearing in mind the fact that she did not create that criteria herself. She met it on ground when she assumed the position.

She refuted accusations of briefcase companies and again pointed to the fact that they all had to fulfill already established, laid down criteria to enter into the sector."
