The Kano State Police Command has apprehended six individuals suspected of engaging in a notorious mobile phone theft gang across Kano Metropolis.

The arrests made between January 11 and 15, 2025, also led to the recovery of 15 stolen mobile phones and two tricycles allegedly used in their operations.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the arrests followed a series of intelligence-driven raids conducted by the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) of the Criminal Investigation Department.

The suspects, identified as Bashir Isah, Isyaku Bala, Mudansir Ayuba, Muzambil Abdullahi, Ibrahim Mohammed, and Hassan Sagir, admitted to disguising themselves as tricycle operators to steal mobile phones from unsuspecting passengers.

Recovered items include two operational tricycles with registration numbers KBT-850WZ and DAL-113WZ, along with 15 mobile phones. The police have invited victims who may recognize their stolen property to visit the Command’s Public Relations Office or contact 07063407910 for assistance.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, acknowledged the support of Kano residents, which he described as instrumental to the operation’s success.

He vowed to intensify efforts to combat criminal activities in the state, including phone theft, armed robbery, and street thuggery.
