The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit, commonly known as the Taskforce, has apprehended 27 individuals for alleged criminal activities in the Ikeja area of the state. The operation, aimed at addressing security concerns, was conducted during the early hours of Saturday.
Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant on News and Media to the Lagos State Governor, confirmed the arrests in a post on his X account, @Mr_JAGs. He revealed that the raid targeted several identified blackspots in Ikeja.
“Earlier today, the Lagos State Taskforce carried out a raid on notable areas in Ikeja where criminal elements have been operating,” Gawat stated. He added that the suspects were known for attacking unsuspecting pedestrians, particularly during late-night and early-morning hours, around Ambiance Hotel and nearby locations.
The operation covered critical hotspots, including Ayinke House, Ikeja Underbridge, and the vicinity of Ambiance Hotel. The suspects reportedly targeted passers-by, dispossessing them of their belongings and creating an atmosphere of fear in the area.
Gawat assured the public that all 27 suspects would be charged in court without delay, emphasizing the state government’s commitment to ensuring safety and order in Lagos.
This latest effort underscores the Lagos State Government’s ongoing crackdown on criminal activities and its resolve to make the metropolis safer for residents and visitors alike.
