
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced Nigeria’s acceptance of an invitation to join BRICS as a partner country, marking a significant step in the nation’s global economic and diplomatic engagements.
In a statement released in Abuja on Saturday, Kimiebi Ebienfa, Acting Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed the development, highlighting the opportunities the partnership presents for Nigeria’s economic growth and regional integration.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria has accepted the invitation to join BRICS as a partner country,” the statement revealed.
The ministry emphasized that this decision aligns with Nigeria’s aspirations for inclusive growth and strategic autonomy, further underscoring the nation’s commitment to fostering international collaboration and advancing its development objectives.
“BRICS, as a collective of major emerging economies, offers Nigeria a unique platform to enhance trade, investment, and socio-economic cooperation with member countries,” the statement added.
The partnership is expected to drive progress in key areas such as trade, energy security, infrastructure development, technology, and climate change. Nigeria aims to leverage the collaboration to bolster innovation, foster people-to-people exchanges, and contribute actively to shaping a fair global economic order.
The ministry expressed optimism about engaging constructively with BRICS member states to achieve mutual goals and strengthen Nigeria’s position in the international arena.
