
A Yobe State High Court has sentenced a 66-year-old man, Ibrahim Musa, to five years in prison for human trafficking after he was found guilty of procuring and exploiting a 14-year-old girl.
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) confirmed Musa’s conviction in a statement released on its official Facebook page on Saturday.
According to the agency, the case was heard at Yobe State High Court II in Damaturu, presided over by Hon. Justice Lawu Lawan. Musa’s actions were found to be in violation of Sections 13 and 16(1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.
The convict was first arraigned on January 12, 2023, and after a prolonged trial, the court delivered its verdict on January 6, 2025, sentencing him to five years behind bars.
NAPTIP has reiterated its commitment to eradicating human trafficking and ensuring that perpetrators face the full weight of the law.
