
A young Nigerian woman, identified as @ZainabAdefowora on X, has tragically passed away following complications from an ear condition that had left her wheelchair-bound despite undergoing a costly medical procedure.
Zainab’s struggle gained widespread attention on social media, where she frequently detailed her deteriorating health. In one of her posts, she described the severity of her condition, warning, *“Ear problems can be so disturbing and life-threatening for real.”*
As her health worsened, she sought urgent medical intervention, documenting her hospital visits and revealing the staggering financial burden of her treatment. *“I don’t want to d!!ev. I’m still yet to calculate the cost of the surgery after spending close to ₦2 million already,”* she lamented in a post.
In a desperate plea for assistance, she disclosed that her condition required immediate surgery to remove pus from her ear. *“Please, guys, I need every single donation. My facial deviation is returning, and I’m experiencing dizziness and severe headaches. The specialist said they’ve done their best to avoid surgery, but now it’s the only option left,”* she wrote. She further revealed that the total cost of the procedure, including blood transfusion and surgery, amounted to ₦600,000.
Following the surgery, her condition worsened, leaving her unable to walk. In a heartbreaking update, she expressed her despair, writing, *“If there was a way I could take my life, I would have done it on December 9. I’m tired. I want to give up. But there’s still hope after the surgery. I can’t even walk properly anymore.”*
Tragically, weeks after the operation, an acquaintance confirmed her passing in a sorrowful post: *“From an ear problem to being in a wheelchair. Now she’s gone. This one pain me.”*
Her untimely death has sparked an outpouring of grief and discussions about the challenges of accessing quality healthcare in Nigeria.
