Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have killed nine suspected terrorists in separate operations across the country, recovering 23 firearms and a cache of ammunition.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, one of the incidents occurred in Gobiraje Village, Suru Local Government Area of Kebbi State, where gunmen abducted a 60-year-old man, Umaru Bawa, on February 14, 2025.

Police operatives from the Kebbi State Command tracked the kidnappers to Tundafari Forest in the Dakingari axis, engaging them in a fierce gun battle. Four of the assailants were neutralized, while one was arrested with life-threatening injuries. The abducted victim was rescued unharmed, and officers recovered N3 million, which had been paid as ransom.

In a separate counter-terrorism operation on February 8, 2025, police operatives in Imo State, in collaboration with other security agencies, stormed a suspected stronghold of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN). The camp, located in Ezioha Mbaitolu, within the Umuele Umuaka Njaba Local Government Area, was successfully dislodged. Two ESN commanders were neutralized, and officers recovered seven AK-47 rifles, 13 pump-action shotguns, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

A follow-up operation on February 9 led security forces to Nkwukwo Forest in Mbaitoli LGA, near the boundary with Ubachima Forest in Awomama Oru West LGA, Imo State. Upon sighting the police, suspected terrorists opened fire, triggering a gun battle that resulted in the elimination of three more insurgents. Security operatives recovered two AK-47 rifles, each loaded with 36 rounds of ammunition, a pump-action shotgun, a cutlass, four motorcycles, and various charms.

The Nigeria Police Force has reiterated its commitment to eliminating criminal elements across the country and has urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies in their efforts to maintain peace and order.
