Recent reports have highlighted a legal dispute within the family of the late Herbert Wigwe, former Group Managing Director of Access Bank. Following his tragic death in a helicopter crash in February 2024, tensions have arisen over the management of his estate.
In October 2024, allegations surfaced that Herbert's father, Pastor Shyngle Wigwe, sought to claim 20% of his late son's estate, challenging the will's directives that allocated assets solely to Herbert's children. However, the family refuted these claims, stating that no such request was made and emphasizing their unity during this period.
The legal proceedings continued, and in February 2025, a Lagos High Court dismissed an application by Christian Chukwuka Wigwe and Pastor Shyngle Wigwe. They had sought the appointment of interim administrators for Herbert's estate, including his eldest daughter, Otutochi Channel Wigwe. The court found no evidence of wrongdoing by the current estate managers and upheld the existing management structure.
This ruling underscores the court's commitment to ensuring the estate is managed according to the deceased's wishes, providing stability for the beneficiaries during this challenging time.
