The Lagos State Police Command has rescued six children who were reportedly left unattended in a residential building within an estate in the Ejigbo area of Lagos.
According to the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the children—aged between seven and 13 years—were found living alone in the house after their mother, who is currently abroad, allegedly left them in the care of a caregiver.
Hundeyin disclosed to journalists on Saturday that the police received a tip-off about the children’s situation on Tuesday around noon, prompting officers from the Ejigbo Police Station to intervene. The case has since been transferred to the Gender Unit in Ikeja for further investigation.
“The children have been rescued and are now in a protective shelter through the Ministry of Youth and Social Development,” he stated.
Initial findings indicate that their mother traveled abroad for medical treatment, leaving them in the custody of an unidentified caregiver. Authorities are currently working to establish contact with the mother while investigations continue to determine the circumstances surrounding the children’s abandonment.
