A farmer identified as Alfa Mustapha was discovered dead with gunshot wounds on his farm in Ageri Village, Odeda Local Government Area, Ogun State, on Saturday.

According to a statement from the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, on Sunday, the victim had gone to his farm in the morning but failed to return at the expected time.

The PPRO mentioned that a resident, worried about Mustapha’s extended time on the farm, went to check on him.

The resident reportedly found the victim’s lifeless body on the farm and promptly notified the police.

Odutola said, “The Ogun State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the murder of one Alfa Mustapha, a 50-year-old farm worker, whose lifeless body was discovered on his farm in Ageri Village, via Olodo, Odeda Local Government Area.

“The case was reported to the Police Outstation in Olodo at about 1830 hours on February 22, 2025, by the Chief Imam of Ageri Mosque, Moshood Mustapha, who stated that the deceased had gone to his farm in the morning but failed to return home.

“Concerned about his whereabouts, the Imam proceeded to the farm at about 1802 hours, where he found the deceased lying face up with his cutlass beside him.”

She added that police officers from the area visited the farm, retrieved the body, and took it to a hospital, where it was confirmed that the victim had been shot at close range and died from the gunshot wounds.

The PPRO added, “Upon receiving the report, police officers from the outstation, led by the officer in charge, visited the scene and confirmed that the victim was lifeless. However, due to heavy rainfall and poor visibility at night, no immediate signs of violence were detected on the body.

“The scene was documented with photographs, and the corpse was evacuated to General Hospital, Odeda, for medical examination.

“A doctor’s assessment later revealed that the deceased had suffered bullet wounds from pellets, indicating he was shot at close range. The body has since been deposited at the hospital morgue for further forensic examination.”

She appealed to the public to share any information that could aid the police in investigating the incident, assuring that justice would be pursued in the case.

“In response to this disturbing incident, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has ordered an intensive investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrator(s).

“He has also assured the public that the Command will leave no stone unturned in bringing those responsible to justice.

“The Command urges anyone with useful information that could aid the investigation to come forward and assist the police. Such information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality,”
Odutola stated.
