In a bid to enhance Nigeria’s tax dispute resolution framework, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has sworn in 50 newly appointed commissioners for the Tax Appeal Tribunal.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Edun emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring a fair and efficient tax adjudication system. He urged the commissioners to discharge their duties with integrity and a strong sense of responsibility.

According to a statement released by the media aide of one of the newly appointed commissioners, Okide Ezigbo, the finance minister tasked the appointees with upholding equity and professionalism in their decisions.

Reacting to his appointment, Ezigbo, a seasoned legal practitioner with over 22 years of experience, assured that he would carry out his duties with transparency and accountability. He pledged to contribute to the efficient resolution of tax disputes and ensure fairness for all parties involved.

The Tax Appeal Tribunal, established under Section 59 of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, plays a crucial role in resolving tax-related conflicts in Nigeria.

Ezigbo, who hails from Anambra State, has an extensive legal background, having previously worked at Funke Adekoya SAN Chambers in Yaba and Aelex Law Firm in Ikoyi, Lagos. His expertise is expected to strengthen the tribunal’s capacity to handle complex tax cases.

The newly appointed commissioners are expected to bring renewed vigor to Nigeria’s tax system, ensuring a fair and just resolution of disputes while fostering compliance and boosting government revenue.
