A Nigerian man who was imprisoned over a ₦1.137 million debt has regained his freedom, expressing heartfelt gratitude to those who contributed to securing his release.
The man, identified as Jonathan, walked out of Apapakene Correctional Center after a successful crowdfunding campaign, which gained traction on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
In a video shared online, Jonathan thanked his supporters, saying,
His case first came to public attention after a handwritten letter he penned from prison surfaced online. The letter was discreetly passed to a social media influencer during a visit by a group of Twitter personalities who had come for a friendly football match with the inmates.
Following his freedom, social media users flooded the comment section of the viral post with congratulatory messages, hailing the power of collective action in changing lives.
