
A tragic incident occurred near the University of Lagos (UNILAG) waterfront as an unidentified woman jumped from the Third Mainland Bridge into the water, resulting in her death despite prompt rescue attempts.
The incident happened around 4 p.m. on Thursday, prompting marine police officers stationed in the area to respond immediately. However, despite their swift intervention, medical personnel later confirmed that she did not survive.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the unfortunate event on Friday.
According to Hundeyin, marine police officers on duty in the area recovered the woman’s body from the UNILAG shore slipway. Despite efforts to revive her, medical professionals from the University of Lagos examined her and pronounced her dead.
Following the confirmation of her passing, authorities transferred her remains to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Mortuary in Yaba for preservation.
Investigations are currently underway to establish her identity and uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident. Officials have also urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
