A frustrated Nigerian mother has sparked a heated online debate after criticizing her child’s school for assigning homework she described as excessively difficult and burdensome — not for the children, but for the parents.
In a viral post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the woman expressed outrage, claiming the school teaches basic concepts in class but sends home far more complex assignments, leaving parents to figure them out.
“My child is the one attending your class, yet you’re giving the assignments to me and his father,” she lamented. “You teach them 2+2 in class, then send them home with quadratic equations. Did we attend the class too?”
She further argued that homework should reinforce what was taught in class, not introduce new, advanced topics that require parental intervention.
“We pay school fees, and now we’re doing the homework too? Should we start attending classes with them? Maybe we should just stay after drop-off,” she quipped sarcastically.
The mother’s post quickly gained traction, drawing mixed reactions from social media users. Some parents shared similar frustrations, while others argued that homework encourages family involvement in education.
The viral discussion has reignited conversations about the balance between challenging students academically and respecting the role of parents in supporting — but not replacing — classroom learning.
