A Nigerian man has made serious allegations against ride-hailing services like Uber and Bolt, as well as traditional taxi drivers, accusing them of collaborating with police officers to provide information about their passengers. This collaboration, he claims, enables officers to stop, search, and extort money from unsuspecting riders.
In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), the man described how drivers from these services tip off the police about passengers they pick up, particularly targeting young individuals. He stated, “These Uber and Bolt drivers in Lagos, and cab drivers across Nigeria, who tip off the police—you pick up a young passenger, and the next thing, you’re on your phone, sending information to the police.”
The video has gone viral, with many social media users expressing their concern and frustration over the allegations. Numerous comments flooded the post, with individuals calling for action and increased scrutiny of both the ride-hailing services and the police force.
