A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Lagos State is under fire from the NYSC board after publicly criticizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration over the rising cost of living.
The corps member, identified by her TikTok handle @talktoraye, shared an emotional video on Saturday, decrying skyrocketing food prices, utility bills, and the state of Lagos. Her passionate outburst described the current government as "terrible," blaming it for the worsening economic situation.
In the video, she lamented the staggering cost of basic commodities, stating,
The young lady, visibly overwhelmed, also spoke about struggling to survive on the NYSC allowance, which she claimed barely covers transportation costs.
The video quickly gained traction, sparking a wave of mixed reactions online.
However, her outcry didn’t sit well with NYSC officials. Within 24 hours of the video going viral, the corps member reported receiving a flood of calls from NYSC authorities, with one official allegedly questioning her sanity, asking, “Are you normal?”
She claimed she’s been pressured by multiple NYSC officials to delete the video and stop making statements against the government, raising fresh concerns about freedom of expression for corps members.
The NYSC board has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
“I don’t know if there has been any other president that is terrible but you are such a terrible president”.
