The Nigeria Police Force has reportedly imposed harsh bail conditions on David Nwokorie, who was arrested following a breakup with Genevieve Opara, daughter of retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hilary Opara.
Genevieve, a Deputy Manager at the National Pension Commission and wife of FRSC official Seal Nwaka, had accused Nwokorie of cyberstalking and blackmail. Her complaint led to his arrest by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID).
Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore intervened in the case, asking the Commissioner of Police at the National Cybercrime Centre to release David. While police initially agreed that his lawyer could secure his bail, Sowore claimed they were later met with “ludicrous” conditions.
According to documents seen by SaharaReporters, FCID demanded two sureties — either senior civil servants not below Grade Level 17 or Abuja-based businessmen with registered companies and properties worth at least ₦500 million, backed by Certificates of Occupancy. Additional requirements include valid IDs, company registration papers, passports, and photos.
Sources said Genevieve and her family were angered by messages allegedly sent by David, where he accused her of mental health struggles, emotional baggage from a past relationship, and reliance on her father’s influence to get her job.
David’s lawyer, Barrister Ezike Chibuzor, claimed the fallout started when David discovered Genevieve had been previously married with two children — information she allegedly withheld. Tensions reportedly worsened in January after David proposed to another woman, prompting Genevieve to storm his house and dam@ge property.
David allegedly demanded ₦25 million in compensation for the destruction and later posted a flyer labeling Genevieve as “wanted” for the damages. She responded by filing a police petition accusing him of cyberb¥llying and extortion, leading to his arrest.
