A Magistrate Court in Apapa has released 17-year-old Alabi Quadri, months after his arrest for standing in front of the convoy of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, during the 2023 election campaign.
Magistrate Adetola Olorunfemi discharged and acquitted Quadri of all charges, including conspiracy to commit f+lony and armed r+bbery, based on legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The court ruled that he had no case to answer.
Quadri appeared in court on Thursday, April 17, 2025, after spending several months in Kirikiri Prison. He was brought before Court No. 9 at the Sikiru Adagun Courthouse in Orege, Ajegunle.
His case had originally been scheduled for April 28, but human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong and the DPP successfully filed for an earlier hearing.
Quadri had captured national attention after a video of him standing boldly in front of Peter Obi’s convoy went viral—widely seen as a symbol of youthful courage and resistance during a politically charged moment.
