Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on young residents to seize the opportunity to enlist in the Nigerian Army, as registration for the 89 Regular Recruits Intake nears its May 17 deadline.

The appeal was conveyed on Tuesday through a statement issued by Olumuyiwa Ojelabi of the Office of the Secretary to the State Government. The recruitment exercise covers both trades and non-trades roles within the Nigerian Army.

Speaking on behalf of the governor during a stakeholder engagement held at the palace of the Olofin of Isheri Olofin, the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, encouraged eligible youths to consider a career in the military. She emphasized the Army’s evolving role beyond traditional combat, noting its increasing focus on education, technology, and professional development.

“This is a valuable opportunity for our young people to not only serve their country but also gain access to specialized training in fields such as medicine, engineering, law, and aeronautics,” she said.

The sensitization event attracted parents, youth leaders, traditional rulers, religious figures, and artisans, all of whom were briefed on the long-term benefits of military service.

Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s support for aspiring recruits, urging them to embrace the discipline, skills, and career advancement that military service can provide.

“With the changing dynamics of national security and defence, the Nigerian Army now offers much more than a uniform — it offers a future,” the governor said.

You think northerners suddenly repented and said, ok, its one Nigeria, let others flood the military? They're simply looking for people from other regions to keep up with the charade in sambissa.
