Police in Delta State have cracked a high-profile kidnap and robbery case involving the theft of a luxury Mercedes-Benz GLC and the unlawful transfer of ₦70 million from a victim’s bank account.
The suspects, who struck in the early hours of May 1 in Abraka, Ethiope-East Local Government Area, were arrested days later at a hotel in Benin City, Edo State, where both the stolen car and the funds were recovered, according to police sources.
The Divisional Police Officer of Abraka, CSP Fabian, immediately activated an investigative response upon receiving the report from the victim, whose identity remains undisclosed for security reasons.
With the support of officers from the Oba Market Police Division in Edo State, the team successfully tracked the stolen Mercedes-Benz GLC to a hotel hideout where the suspects were arrested.
According to human rights activist, Comrade Israel Joe, who has been following the case, “The young man was kidnapped around Abraka, his car was taken, and ₦70 million was wiped from his account. It was a brutal and calculated operation.”
Police confirmed that the stolen funds were still traceable in the suspects’ account at the time of arrest, bolstering the case against them.
The Delta State Police Command has yet to release the identities of the suspects as investigations continue, but sources say further arrests may be imminent as authorities unravel the full extent of the criminal network.
The command has praised the swift coordination between its divisions and warned criminal elements that they will be relentlessly pursued and brought to justice.
