Troops of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, under Operation SAFE HAVEN, have arrested two suspected gunrunners and kidnappers in a string of intelligence-led operations in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The suspects, Yahaya Adamu and Saeedu Haruna, were nabbed following a joint operation conducted in collaboration with a security intelligence agency.
According to military sources, the crackdown began on May 10, 2025, when Adamu was arrested in Barakin Gangare. His arrest reportedly led to a follow-up raid the next day in Marit Mazat community, also within Barkin Ladi, where Haruna was apprehended.
Troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, a loaded magazine, and an Itel mobile phone during the second operation.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the duo are part of a wider criminal syndicate linked to a spate of violent crimes, including gunrunning and kidnappings across Barkin Ladi’s Gashish and Kurra Falls areas, and Gwantu and Fadan Karshe in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Both suspects are currently in military custody and are said to be cooperating with ongoing investigations, providing actionable intelligence on the group’s operations.
Security operatives are intensifying efforts to track down other fleeing members of the gang and recover more illicit weapons linked to the group.
