Attempts by protesting youths to attack the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar in Bida for allegedly supporting the PDP presidential candidate was foiled by men of the joint security patrol who were said to have gunned down two of the youths.

The youths marched towards the Wadata Palace of the Etsu Nupe with the intention of removing him from the throne to register their displeasure over his alleged role at the polls.  Daily Trust also gathered that five people are currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre Bida for gunshot injuries.  Those hit by the bullets are, Mohammed Khalil, Oba Adewale, Umar Adamu, Ndagi Zubairu, Alhaji Nakaka and Ba Nnagi who were alleged to have incurred the wrath of the security team for pelting pebbles at them.  After three hours of tension in the area, normalcy returned as men of the joint security force took control of situation to restore normalcy.

Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu while expressing displeasure over the fracas in the state said the action of the youths was condemnable, calling on people of the state to embrace peace.  While expressing displeasure over the development yesterday in Minna at a meeting, the governor said those engaged in the protests were sponsored to disrupt the existing peace in the state.

“It is obvious that these youths were sponsored because there is no way they would have just taken to the streets on their own without having been brainwashed by someone or a group of people.  But one thing is sure-that all those who use these youths to cause problems by mixing politics with religion will definitely suffer,” he said.  Meanwhile, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Richard Oguche, who confirmed the tension in Bida yesterday said he was yet to get comprehensive report of the casualty figure in the place.
