The issue of prostitution in Naija is surrounded by hypocrisy. Go to all the communities and the major cities in Nigeria, you would find brothels everywhere, and clubs where sex workers ply their trade. There is hardly any community that you would not find a brothel these in Nigeria especially the major cities and men patronize them and still come out to condemn the sex workers. The worst men are the Nigerian police who go on late nights raids whenever they need some  cash and they arrest the girls so that they can collect money from them.
In many developed countries, prostitution is no longer illegal. It is the hypocritical illegality and stigmatization that will attach to the sex workers that give the police legal right to harass them and extort money from them. Yet, many of our so-called responsible men patronize them in bars, clubs or brothels. What should be done is to accept the reality that these trade won't go away but it can be minimized. what we-should do is re-habilitate the sex workers and protect them from harassment. Manage them so that they can practice safe sex and ensure that those that are willing to live the trade are able to find work and live a normal life.
