Five members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Rivers State have been abducted. The corps members, including four females were said to have been whisked away by gunmen somewhere at Omademe in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state while on the way to their place of primary assignment.
The abduction occurred just as suspected hoodlums killed two policemen and wounded another in the early hours of yesterday, June 8th, 2011 in Port Harcourt. Sources told Daily Sun that the corps members were riding in a car belonging to one of them when the gunmen struck. No group had claimed responsibility for the abduction as at press time. When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the NYSC directorate in the state, Mr. Esan told Daily Sun that officials of the directorate had been sent to the area to obtain details of the incident.
He confirmed that only one male was among the victims.The Commissioner of Police, Mr Suleiman Abba said vigorous search by several police teams in the surrounding areas had commenced to trace the abducted corps members. He said all hands were on deck on the investigation that would lead to the rescue of the victims and arrest of the gunmen.

Kidnappers / gunmen pls lets not start again..not now that we are enjoying some calm 'n' tranquility in the state..now that some good things are quietly coming our way thru the govt of rivers state...kidnappers 'n' gunmen pls arms down...don't spoil the return of the goodies in rivers state pls. We hope that this recent activities are not politically plotted ? Police make una no only stand at attention oo,make una try to de forward match on issues like this oo, abegi. The attack on corpers is quietly getting out of hand in naija...The fed 'n' state govt should do something about this 'n' do it fast.its raining i got to go .

the fact remain as long as our leaders continue to embezzle (steal) our money this will not Stop, when the people we look up to as leaders spend our money on woman and some useless things and we have millions of Nigerians out there starving, Imagine policeman kill just like that, am only against killing, our leaders are doing worst than kidnapping, the kidnappers only kidnap few people but government kidnaps millions of people but professional...............................God is the only one who can inter-vain.

This is bad news.pls the govt of river state should entervain in this matter b/cos they are serving their fatherland.the police should investigate in all the rural areas not 2 stand at the road 2 take beribe to keke and bus drivers that comes out to find their daily bread.
