There r controls in place that a good leader can use to encourage rather than force people into doing stuff. GLJ was wrong in imposing such changes to the cement manufacturers. From what I can see, no consultation took plce with these producers just a 30 days notice to make some changes. Regardless of whether these people have been too greedy in the past, any changes to the process have to be done rite.

In the UK, when the Liberal democrat wanted to make changes the voting system there was a vote. Also, wen the govt made some changes to how the financial industry operates, the rule went thru the parliament and got signed from a bill to a law. At various stages through the process, the FSA and the Treasury wrote out a discussion paper informing the industry of what they will like thr achieve then they sought their feedback. They wrote a consultation of what how they propse that this should b carried out. Aain they receive feedback from the industry on how this will impact the companies and consumers. This is then considered in the final implementation. For example, they mite choose to relax the law for smaller firms if compliance cost is too high or provide support for them. Going thru this long n tedious process ensures buy-in and means dat a collaborative approach is adopted. Naija govt is supposed to b democratic in nature n not authoritative like in the military era.

GLJ will do well to change his approch if he wants to suceed. If he continues to push this, he will lose. If Dangote decides to sell his products elsewhere in other countries (which is possible given the free trading of some African countries) Nigeria economy will suffer for it.
This ur comment is so annoying to read Lady....U r giving us u.k example and that it should be voted whether Dangote should reduce the cement price or not .... did u care to ask who and who voted for one man to monopolze the production of cement? lemme tell you if dangote thinks its not right for him to reduce the price the fed. govt should make it free for everybody who is interested tin that business to go right in and do it. How could a whole nation depend on one man for the cost of building there house while millions are there and very capable to provide same service at a cheaper price. GEJ will not lose anything, He is doing the will of the people and God of the poor masses will never let any kingdom of darkness prevail over him.  I don't even know why he is being recognised by this govt. cos its very illegal for on man to monopolise business in a country of how many million ppl.... u said our economy will suffer if he decide to sale his goods elsewhere... how many ppl did he employ? take for instance when one man is allowed to monopolise clothing business what do u thiink would happen millions of ppl who have been doing it ever since..... infact i am so angry concerning that licence they give to only him  Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry

i have been in germany usa sweden spain for 9yrs i have been here, price of coca cola hav never added a cent,no big criminal grammer of demand and supply, theres no  unconditinal love in nigeria.rathers lovers of money and themselves, jonathan can handle this!hes man of the people, what he should do is just simple, first there should be price controll of basic things in nigeria, but i want him to handle this with wisdom, there should be compititions rather than monopoly,in the aspect of cement, fresh company should be given license to run the business and govt should  fix prices for them, knowin  how much they are making after expenditure, and evry govt contract based on cement should be given to them, also if they need loans for establishment they should b sopported
 ordinary nigerians have sufferd enough!!!!!!

IF DANGOTA REFUSES WITH THE TERM OF THE GOV., GOV SHOULD INVITE CALIBARAS OF PPLE WHO CAN SIT AND FIND SOLUTION ON HOW TO TACKLE IT.SECONDLY, GOV. SHOULD ISSUE OTHERS LICENSE TO IMPORT AND SELL AS WELL.(GIVING THEM HELPING HAND). BUT IN ALL THINGS MAKE SURE U PRAY VERY WELL B4 ACTING. ALL THEY ARE TRYING TO DO IS TO MAKE US BELIEVE THAT THIS GOV. WILL FAIL US. NOTE:NOBODY IS PERFECT.WHAT AM I SAYING- U MUST NOT BE CORRECT EVERY TIME. HELP THIS GOV TO MOVE, UUUUUUUUUUUUU AND IIIIIIIIII CAN DO IT. HELP OUR COUNTRY NIGERIA. DO NOT WAIT FOR MR PRESIDENT.

Shaotang- am not saying that the current system is wrong am saying it shud b changed gradually- Jonathan is being overly ambituous, you dont change prices from 2700 to 1000 in 30 days. Not even in years self. The smartest thing would have bern to start by creating a rule that says that all price changes of sum goods (other than inflation adjustments) must b signed off by an independent or govt body. Then limit price setting power of large companies. Review the monopoly laws (although it is noteworthy to mention at this stage that Cement industry is not a monopoly market) use his influence as chairman of ECOWAS to ensure that these policiesbare upheld in all ECOWAS countries. Instead of firmly setting price for cement, he shud av obtain the services of an analyst to research the cost of producing cement and then set a cap on profit mark-up. If all that doesnt work, he cud have also encouraged foreign companies to invest in naija cement industry (a better option than importing good due to jobs and income created) to create competition for Dangote.

The repercussison of his action is that, he showed his card roo early and now Dangote knows what he is up to. His greatest weapon element of surprise is no longer useful. Since Dangote did not become a successful business man by being stupid, I will assume that he now has a strategy in place is currently one step ahead of GLJ, of course, if he didnt have spies already in GEJ's office he will have several now. So once again kudos to GLJ for approaching this issue like a silly two year old kid.

Anyway there might sense in what you are saying but this is not time for long story., Dangote is just an individual not name of a state... is the govt supposed to be planning how to revoke that monopolised cement prduction licence of his while nobody was contact when it was being given to him? Also why do u have to think that GEJ woke up one morning & decided to ask dagote to reduce the price if he has not made the necessary enquries befor hand?.....if communication industries like mtn and glo where monopolised by one person do u think everybody would be able to access their phones and internet as it is now? Abeg that licence he is holding is hindering the development of that country seriously!

Is that all u can say ...if you ask me i will tell u that this is for the good of all Nigerians . now u are seeing it as if there are fighting and if i may ask fighting for what , the president is fighting for the good of his ppl u know that many things has been misspalce it will took goodluck a lots of time to put things in other i pray that GOd will give him more wisdon to lead this corrupt Country

If this country is corrupt he is also corrupt, Business is different with politics, Nigeria is a big country. Decisive measures should be taken in order to make amends if at all is in the good of this country, after all what has he to show for since he was the Deputy Governor and Governor of Bayelsa state so you  people should stop making bla bla bla and face the reality, Let the price come down in real sense but not a command and not a directives should be a compromise.

Just becuz the ppl in the past have done thing right doesnt mean that we shud continue tht way.
Anyways, na their business, I hope it all works well for him. All I know is dat he shud b careful not to show his cards at once.

PS- Dangote is not just a man- he is an institution, a very powerful one at that.
