The incident, which occurred on the ever busy Mile 2-Oshodi Expressway, caused a melee and traffic jam which lasted for several hours.
When Saturday Tribune got to the scene of the incident, officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigeria Police and some fire-fighters had gathered at the scene of the incident, ensuring that no vehicle or motorcycle came near it.
According to an officer of the Federal Fire Service, H Close, Third Arena, who spoke to Saturday Tribune under the condition of anonymity, the fire-fighters responded as soon as they received distress calls from some Lagos residents, minutes after the tanker fell.
“The tanker apparently fell while trying to make its way through a bad portion of the road. Our roads are in a terrible state, it is high time the government did something. If not for some individuals who came to inform us, and our prompt response together with the efforts of the Lagos State Fire Service, we would probably be talking about another major catastrophe in the state by now,” he said.
