Goalkeeper: Ben Foster
Performance grade: D

How on earth did Swansea discover Michel Vorm without other major clubs making a move?

Another terrific game from Vorm whereas his counterpart on the weekend, Ben Foster, had another substandard game.

With a man on both posts and Foster in the middle, somehow the Englishman still palmed Leroy Lita's header into the net.

Then he was made to look like a fool, like he was against Stoke City, when Nathan Dyer's shot went in between Foster's legs.

Defender: John Terry
Performance grade: D

Here's some food for thought: against Manchester United, Fernando Torres won more headers than John Terry.

Terry didn't win a single tackle on the ground and spent most of the game leading a shambolic defence, at times embarrassingly exposed.

One does wonder what type of orders Terry was barking out because whatever they were, they weren't the right ones because his defence was all over the place.

It's the fourth consecutive Premier League game that Chelsea have conceded a goal.

What's distressing is when you look at the centre-back options for Chelsea.

David Luiz is el loco when tackling.

Branislav Ivanović has been a liability at the back and seemingly has become a better right-back than centre-back.

Alex is dreaming of a move to Juventus.

Defender: Ashley Cole
Performance grade: D

Ashley Cole couldn't stop Nani, but it's only one game, and he generally is consistent in defence and attack.

The litmus test for Cole will be when Chelsea face Arsenal in October with lively Gervinho as his assignment.

For all the verbal abuse and complaining Cole dishes out to referees week-in and week-out, surprisingly he hasn't been sent off since 2007.

I was flummoxed as to how he not only escaped a red card for a very crude and unnecessarily late follow through on Chicharito but why referee Phil Dowd didn't award a penalty.

Though to be fair to referee Dowd, he had a relatively good game in allowing it to flow.

I watched Patrick van Aanholt, on loan at Wigan Athletic, have a very promising game against Everton.

Cole needs to ensure he performs week-in and week-out, especially in the big games.

Defender: Laurent Koscielny
Performance grade: F

We're here to discuss the horrible, and a horrible game Laurent Koscielny had.

No surprise he was the leader of the defence when Manchester United scored eight, and again no surprise he is the leader of the defence when Blackburn Rovers score four.

Forget about his wonderful finish to score an own goal, and focus on his defending, or lack there of.

In the example shown above, it's clear Koscielny needs Defending 101.

Ball watching as well as not having the positional awareness or the football IQ to predict play means he is generally always a step behind.

Any guesses to which Arsenal player botched the team's offside traps moments earlier?

André Santos. Did I say he couldn't defend when Arsenal bought him? He might need to learn how to play the offside trap if Arsenal are going to continue with him at left-back whilst playing such a high defensive line.

Defender: Johan Djourou
Performance grade: D

When Johan Djourou was charging towards Martin Olsson, I was thinking, "This is a red card for certain," which would have been four red cards in five Premier Leagues for Arsenal.

Instead Djourou put in a very weak challenge which Olsson easily skipped over.

He then raided the empty right flank, beat Alex Song and accumulated an assist when Laurent Koscielny expertly finished in front of his own goals.

Djourou would have been better clattering Olsson and receiving his marching orders. Instead, I believe, he pulled out at the last second when he remembered, "Oh sh__, I'm on a yellow," and put in half a tackle, if you could call it that.

Blackburn Rovers won the game because of that play.

To be fair to the Swiss centre-back, he was being played out of position at right-back.

Defender: Martin Škrtel
Performance grade: F

Martin Škrtel should never play at right-back, ever.

It's one thing to be an inept right-back, it's another thing to not play the position and leave your teammates exposed time after time after time.

When he was tracking Gareth Bale, he was either easily beaten (as you'd expect) or he'd foolishly hack him down.

So foolish was Škrtel that he got himself stupidly sent off.

Midfielder: Charlie Adam
Performance grade: F

For a second week in a row, Charlie Adam has been woefully inefficient with possession and a nightmare with the tackling.

He should have been sent off against Stoke City, but wasn't; however, he was rightfully given a second yellow card for following through on Scott Parker

That should have been a straight red.

Last season, he escaped a straight red when he cruelly cut Gareth Bale down.

To be blunt, Adam cost Liverpool the game.

Midfielder: Frank Lampard
Performance grade: C

Chelsea needed Frank Lampard to be on his A-game, but he failed to impress.

Keep in mind, heading into the game against Manchester United, he had created the most chances in the Premier League.

Lampard needs to start scoring goals and providing assists on a more regular basis.

Midfielder: Jonathan Walters
Performance grade: C

Jonathan Walters toiled hard on the right, but he doesn't offer anything productive on the wings nor does he offer incisive crossing or dribbling.

It would be more beneficial if Jermaine Pennant were to play on the right.

Midfielder: Karl Henry
Performance grade: D

What does Karl Henry actually do from a footballing perspective?

Henry ran around, gave away a few free kicks, had no control of the midfield and early in the first half, he ironically passed it to Joey Barton.

Forward: Ivan Klasnić
Performance grade: F

Surely someone as experienced as Ivan Klasnić, who looks like he is 40, should have known that putting his head near an opponent in an apparent act of headbutting could lead him to be sent off.

His "victim" Marc Tierney closely mimicked Joey Barton and went down with little or no contact.

Klasnić was red-carded, and Bolton Wanderers had no chance of winning.

Maybe Klasnić should have flattened Tierney by charging at him full bolt, because Leon Barnett got away with it when he flattened Klasnić earlier on.

Tierney should be suspended for playacting because what he did damages the integrity of football.
