THE Bauchi State police command has dismissed a policeman who allegedly raped a nursing mother detained at Soro police station in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of state.
The detainee, one Hafsat Manye, was being detained in the station over allegation of conspiracy and culpable homicide, when she was allegedly raped by the policeman while in detention.
Disclosing this while speaking with journalists at the weekend, the deputy commissioner of police in the state, Mr Abdulmajid Ali, said the command had concluded investigation into the allegation made by the woman against the policeman, adding that he had been dismissed from service by the command and had also been charged to court.
“We have concluded our investigation. We have dismissed the policeman after we concluded our investigation and we charged him to court,” Ali stated.
However, while commending the police for taking the step to dismiss the alleged randy policeman, the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria has said the state police command should go beyond dismissing the culprit and ensure that he was properly tried in an open court, with a view to justifying the public confidence on them.
