LAGOS—A 34-year-old lady, Jesica Ezievi, and Edison Tony, have been arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, on a three-count charge of stealing and escaping with property belonging to a Canadian, Mr. Patrick Madigan.
According to the charge, Tony, a landlord in the Awoyaya area of Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, acted as an accomplice by allegedly receiving and keeping items, known to be stolen, from Jesica.
The accused were arrested by the police at Maroko Police Division, Lekki, Eti-Osa, Lagos State, after a complaint by Mr. Madigan that after he left his lover (Jesica) at his residence for work, she carted away his property.
The prosecutor, Mr Nicholas Anieke, informed the court that the offence took place on August 26, 2011 at Black Diamond, Block 1, Lekki Expressway, Victoria Island, Eti-Osa, Lagos State, an offence punishable under Section 516, 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 32, vol. ii, C17, laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2003.
The prosecution said the accused and her accomplice were apprehended at their hideout at Ibeju-Lekki, where some of the items were recovered while others had allegedly been sold by the accused, after about eight months of receiving Madigan’s complaint.
The accused person pleaded not guilty to the charge, and were granted bail by the trial magistrate, Mrs. O. Layinka, in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. The matter was adjourned till November 3.
