Chibuzo, who is standing trial for allegedly attacking her neighbour, Mrs Juliet Ohiosuma.
The accused was said to have attacked the neighbour after suspecting that she was having an affair with her
husband.
The trial Judge, Malam Mustapha Hassan, on Wednesday rejected the suspect’s bail application “based on her
past records in the same court”.
The court also relied on the evidence and facts presented by the prosecution about the accused to deny her bail.
“Since the accused has formed the habit of molesting her neighbours and had appeared before this court for
similar offences, the court has no option than to remand her in prison custody.
“The court has warned the accused several times to stop attacking her female neighbours based on mere
suspicion that her husband is chasing them, but these warnings appear unheeded.”
The judge said the court had the powers to remand the accused in prison custody pending the time she was ready
to live peacefully with her neighbours
“Anytime the accused shows signs of being remorseful, the court will grant her bail plea.”
Earlier, the prosecutor, Ibrahim Gokwat, had objected to the bail application on the grounds that the accused had
appeared before the same court for the same offence before.
“My lord, the accused, because of her size, has been terrorising her female neighbours, both married and single,
on mere suspicion that husband is chasing them.”
Gokwat said that on several occasions, the accused had failed to provide any evidence that the women were
having anything to do with her husband.
The counsel to the accused, Mr Uche Ike, had applied for bail on the grounds that the accused was married and
had four children.
Ike said that the defence was ready to bring competent sureties to the court, if the accused was granted bail.
The case was adjourned to Dec. 16 for further hearing.
