The North has won every single Presidential Election in this country since the 1950's when Balewa won, including the most rigged election in our history - UMYA (Obasanjo was the North's candidate against Falae). Despite that, people in the South did not rush to all the 'Sabos' to kill them or burn mosques. The South has won, for the first time, in the fairest election in our history, and they started killing innocent people just because they are from the south, including southern moslems & youth corpers. Countless numbers of youth corpers have lost their lives in the senseless killing of southerners for decades. I am yet to hear of a single one from the north being killed in the south. I remember how I used to care & support those who were posted to my Department then. Do you know they went after innocent national youth corpers (who were on their compulsory one-year national service to the nation) at corpers' lodges to kill them after the April, 2011 Presidential election won by Goodluck Jonathan? I have first hand information from my former students who were on the service at that time. Why? For how long?  How can we continue together with these people?  Where lay the similarities? It is who they are. Of course, I will never fail to add that there are incredibly pleasant, good natured, kind and pleasant people from the Northern part of Nigeria. Indeed, it is my belief that the ordinary Northerner is a good person. The problem here is that it is just natural for every one to defend his/her turf. As long as you have to share and ration resources, the natural instinct is to seek the upper hand. After all, I'm just dioing the same thing with this article. Even when you want to be objective, you are not likely to see things from the 'outsiders'' point of view.

These indoctrinated street urchins, nurtured, groomed and backed by the Northern elite and their social system kill HUMAN BEINGS when there are threats to their CATTLE! Even as children growing up in Ibadan, you knew that you must not mess around with Hausas/Fulanis because they always had their daggers!

I’ve heard top civil servants complain that so-called Directors write official comments on government files in federal ministries in Arabic! What manner of gross contempt for other Nigerians from other parts of the country. The lingua franca in Nigeria is supposed to be English. A southerner in Nigeria finds it difficult to get a job in the North, even when he is more qualified than all contenders. At the best he is given a ‘contract job’, like a foreigner, in his own country! You are much safer in Ghana or Togo than in the northern part of your country.

The northern region has absolutely no regard or desire for education, which is the utmost pursuit of those in the South, especially the West. While the women in South-West are among the most educated in Africa, the women of Northern Nigeria are the least educated in the ENTIRE WORLD, according to Reuters. Indeed, it is a deliberate policy of the Northern rulers to keep their subjects illiterate and to antagonize Western education while the South struggles to establish free education. Where lay the similarities? The Boko Haram menace that has engulfed the country now accentuates the folly of the so-called Nigerian State. This group which has been tacitly and vocally endorsed by the Northern elites, including the Central Bank Governor - Sanusi Lamido Sanusi - and funded by the governors of the Northern States with the oil money derived from the Niger Delta claims that their primary objective is to eradicate Western education in the country, dismantle democratic governance and institute Sharia law across the entire country! What effrontery! In a country with about 50% of Christians, and where most Southerners will sell their last treasure to get qualitative Western education for their children? Where lies the similarity?

You can imagine Lamido Sanusi (Nigeria's Central Bank Governor) claiming that the Boko Haram killing machine is a result of the resource allocation derivative formula revision of the Obasanjo administration which gave more resources to the environmentally ravaged Niger-Delta area. It is most pathetic that someone of his status, level of education and supposed pedigree will have his reasoning so clouded with primitive ethnocentric chauvinism. Southerners have been massacred with impunity in the North since pre-Independence era in the 1950s. I was born in Kano & lived my early years there, so I'm not ignorant of the horror of living as a Southerner in a part of your own so-called country. Lamido Sanusi should go & put on his thinking cap and bring up a better EXCUSE. Apart from this, despite the fact that, sometimes the line of division between MEND's (Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta) activism & criminality is sometimes blurred, the fact is that they have a genuine cause to rally around. Remember that the world renowned environmental activist - Ken Saro-Wiwa - was killed by Gen. Abacha (a Northerner) over this issue, against international outcry. How many rivers or farmlands have been destroyed through oil exploration activities in the Boko Haram (BH) geographical area? Rather it is the oil from the MEND area that their governors lavish on them & use to develop infrastructure in those areas. The Niger Delta is the goose that lays the golden egg & the rest of us in Nigeria must respect them & placate them. What do we gain from BH catchment area except the killing of innocent people? And let's remember, MEND attacked oil fields & those they viewed as the perpetrators - the Corporations (I'm not justifying this in any way), not sporadic killings on the streets, or singling out non-Christians or other ethnic groups for massacre. MEND & BH should never be seen as the same or treated in the same way and this lame and irresponsible excuse should be dropped by the Northern elites who are the real patrons of BH.

Reiterating the fact that the North and South hardly agrees on anything, the last census quoted Lagos population as 9 million behind Kano when ALL reputable and scientific population agencies worldwide (including the UNFP) lists Lagos among the 10 most populated in the world while Kano does not even feature among the first 100! http://www.worldatlas.com/citypops.htm This definitely gives Kano more access to the oil wealth than Lagos. Every issue in Nigeria has always been a North-South issue. Of course, it was under Obasanjo, but the head of the Commission was a northerner. Also remember, Obasanjo was the North's candidate. His campaign slogan was 'the leader WE can trust'. don't be deceived, the 'WE' does not refer to Nigeria, it refers to 'the North'. Since pre-indepence era, the North and South hardly ever agrees on anything! be it election results, census, revenue allocation formulae, location of facilities & industries (imagine locating a refinery in Kaduna when the oil is in the Niger-Delta & we are complaining of pipeline vandalization), etc. Why can't we be friendly neighbouring countries with one another and let every country take its own destiny it its hand? Those who want western education can progress while those who want to live in the Usman Dan-Fodio era should be free to do so.
