AGAIN!! Court Detains Man For Killing His Wife Over Food (Eba)

Guys this is no longer getting funny, remember the storyof a Man that beat killed his beloved wife over food last week (see the story Woman Dies After Fight With Husband Over Food)

Today I read in the dailies that  an Ebute Meta Magistrate Court sitting in Lagos on Monday ordered that Mr. Odion Ukhoria should be remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons, for beating his wife to death following a quarrel over food,

Mr. Odion, a 41-year-old wife beater, whose plea was not taken, is facing a charge of murder before the court. The prosecutor, Insp. Gift Nyeche, had earlier told the court that the accused allegedly killed his wife, Ifeoma, because of eba (garri).

The accused beat his wife to death after she had refused to prepare eba (gari) for his lunch,” the prosecutor told the court. The offence was committed at their residence at 2, Olusola Close, Abule Taylor, Abule-Egba on February 19, 2012.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr. Shole Ojeriakhi, urged the court to temper justice with mercy, saying the accused may have committed the crime out of annoyance.

The Magistrate, Mrs. F.M. Kayode, adjourned the case till April 1, 2012, pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP.

The man should have at least made the EBA himself. It's no big deal. Although women should care for the family meals, but our African men sometimes tend to turn their wives into marital slaves. This is not fair.
Sometimes when I see my that wife is exhausted, I dash into the kitchen to cook and serve myself, serve my children and even serve my wife.
One thing has to be understood in a marriage, we are companions and co-helpers and co-makers of the home.

Though the Bible says that the man is the lord and the woman his helper, does not mean that we should turn into autocratic husbands and turn our wives into marital slaves all in the name of I- paid-your-dowry

It is well noted that women sometimes push men into temperament beyond their control and most deaths in such circumstances are usually accidental. So, I plead also that the Judge should tamper justice with mercy. But the man should be made to serve 10 years in prison for the accidental murder of his beloved wife.
