The Police in Lagos on Friday said they had handed over 31 immigrants from Niger Republic, arrested at the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos, to the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS).

The spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, SP Joseph Jaiyeoba, told newsmen in Ikeja that the immigrants, who were arrested on Thursday, did not have any travel documents.

He said that they were suspected to be coming to Lagos to seek greener pastures.

"They were arrested by a patrol team from Ketu Police Division on Thursday around 4 p.m. and none of them had any travel document," he said.

Jaiyeoba said that on interrogation, the suspects were found to be illiterates.

The spokesman said that the police were on top of the security situation in the state and the command would not take chances.

"Our men are out there all the time and always act promptly when they are suspicious of any danger," he said.
