SNC: We need to dismantle unitary system, Tinubu, Fashola, Ikuforiji insist

As Nigeria grapples with the issue of whether or not to have a national conference, has former Governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Tinubu, has attributed the impasse to successive military administrations, blaming former military Heads of State, General Mohammadu Buhari, Ibrahim Babangida and former President Olusegun Obasanjo for centralising the nation’s federal arrangement.

Meanwhile, Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State and the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, faulted the present federal revenue allocation formula, describing it “as unjust and inequitable.”

Tinubu, making the remarks at a consultative roundtable and policy retreat, organised by Lagos State House of Assembly for elected officials of local governments, said that every government in the past decades was dictatorial and stirred Nigeria’s federal arrangement towards unitary system.

The former governor and national leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) added; “We need a new revenue allocation formula that is equitable and fair. We need to dismantle this unitary system we call federalism. We need to get rid of unfounded regime at the centre.”
