THE All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, weekend, stated that it had begun process of forming alliance with opposition political parties and civil society groups, including Civil Liberty Organisations, to wrestle power from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2015 general election.

The party, which noted that if the last resort of its negotiations with opposition political parties was for it to establish a merger; it would not fail to do so, in order to provide an alternative leadership for the citizens of the country.

Addressing newsmen at the end of the party’s meeting with its South East leaders at Uburu in Ohaozara Local government area of Ebonyi State, South East National Vice Chairman of ANPP, Chief George Moghalu, stressed that the party would not relent in its bid to capture political power in 2015 no matter the challenges that laid ahead.

He said: “We know that we can create any enabling environment for opposition political parties to come together so that we can get power to the benefit of  Nigerians. We are open. The national leadership have been having discussions and consulting with opposition political parties. This was part of the briefing we received today.

“The National Chairman and his team have been reaching out not only to political parties but also to interest groups, Civil Liberty Organisations, NGOs. What we are saying in the South East is that we encourage them.

“We are highly in support of it. In doing this, we are honest with ourselves that we cannot go into this battle ourselves. We need to create an enabling platform to bring opposition groups together so that we can move forward at the election.

“That is not say that if at the end of the day, the national leadership of our party talking with other groups thinks that the only way to rescue us from the problem of this country is a merger, then we are open”. We encourage them. Our concern is that we want to provide an alternative leadership so that Nigerians will be able to compare.”

Moghalu, who criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, of being partial and insincere in the conduct of elections, pointed out that the reason the nation was still being faced with the challenge of raising credible leaders was because its electoral process had been bastardised with corruption.

“That is basically the challenge we have. For INEC, the only change we have seen is the paint in the colour of their headquarters. The truth about it is that we are still were we are. We say INEC should leave up to its responsibility.

“They are toying with the destinies of this country. In this country even little children know that rigging is part of the electoral process. INEC and the security operative should be neutral. The neutrality of the security operatives must be guaranteed so us to have free, fair and credible election.

“The worse form of corruption is electoral corruption because the moment you throw up leaders through a corrupt process, there is no way those people can run a transparent system. There is no way you can be in office through a fraudulent process and your conscience will be settled and that is why we have problem.

“I bet you there are some people who are representing us who do not know the beginning and end of their constituencies because some of them were elected in their bedrooms so that is part of the problem we are in,” he added.
