Former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, revealed a fascinating aspect of his family history, disclosing that he is the 43rd out of his father's 64 children. This revelation was made at the inauguration of the Alolade Oyinlola College of Health Sciences and Information Technology in Okuku, Osun State.

Oyinlola, the proprietor of the new institution, shared this during the event, which he co-hosted with Prof. Peter Okebukola, the former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission. The college aims to promote wellness, quality, and ethical practices through excellence in education, service, and community engagement.

Reflecting on his upbringing, Oyinlola said, “My father never had formal education, but he believed so much in education that he said the only legacy and property he was going to leave for any of his children was education; and the benefit of going through that is what is happening today. Many of you know my background, that I am the 43rd child out of 64. My father insisted that all his children must be educated."

Oyinlola explained the significance of naming the institution after his mother: “Second, if by chance, the next generation ask who is Olagunsoye Oyinlola; unless Lagos State is no longer in existence, my name will reflect in history. It is only if there is no Okuku again that people will forget that there was one Oba Moses Oyinlola who has passed. But, in 250 years, who will remember the woman that gave birth to Olagunsoye Oyinlola? That is the reason for naming this institution after her.”

Prof. Okebukola, chair of the college’s implementation committee, highlighted that 35 renowned scholars from around the world, including Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, have agreed to serve as adjunct lecturers. He also called for a reorientation on the value placed on certificates from higher institutions, urging Nigerians to focus on the practical contributions of certificate holders.

The college offers various diploma programs, including Environmental Health Technology, Health Information Technician, Medical Laboratory Technician, Community Health Extension Workers, Health Care Technician, Junior Community Health Extension Workers, and Health Care Assistant.
