A 45-year-old woman from Indonesia's South Sulawesi province was tragically killed by a five-meter python while returning from her garden, local media reported on Saturday.
The woman, a resident of Sidenreng Rappang district, had informed her husband on Thursday that she was heading out to sell chillies to a collector. When she did not return home, her husband and relatives launched a search operation, explained village head Suardi Rosi.
By the next morning, the search party discovered a large python near the woman's abandoned belongings, Rosi stated. Acting quickly, the villagers, who are accustomed to the presence of such formidable predators, killed the snake. Upon cutting it open, they were horrified to find the woman's body inside.
The incident has shocked the local community, highlighting the dangers posed by pythons in the region. The villagers' familiarity with these predators underscores the constant risk they live with, despite their routine measures to safeguard against such threats.
