Veteran Journalist, Ray Ekpu Loses Wife To Cold Hands Of Death

Former Editor in Chief/ Chief Executive Officer of Newswatch Magazine, Mr Ray Ekpu, has announced the passing of his wife, Uyai Ray Ekpu, after a brief illness at the age of 73. Ekpu in a statement on behalf of the family on Wednesday said Uyai believed in family values, community service and had love for God.

He said: “With a humble acceptance of God’s will, but with a huge dose of sadness we announce the passing of Uyai Ray Ekpu, wife of Ray Ekpu, former Editor in Chief/Chief Executive Officer of Newswatch on April 21, 2024, after a brief illness.

She was aged 73 years. “Uyai was a senior Centre for Management Development (CMD) staff and retired in 2011 as an Acting Director of the Management Education and Training Department. “Uyai obtained both a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Master’s in Library Science from the University of Ibadan, Oyo State.

She also received a Masters in Business Administration from the Enugu State University of Technology, Enugu State. She also earned diplomas from the Maastricht School of Management and the Ghana Institute of Management and Personnel Administration, Ghana.

“Uyai was a believer in family values, community service and inclusivity. She also had the gift of compassion and love for God.

“Uyai is survived by her husband, Ray Ekpu, three children namely: Elu Ray Mbakwe, Mfoniso Ray Ekpu, Edikan Ray Osho, six grandchildren, an elderly sister Eneanwan Inyang, a retired school teacher and a host of other relations. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.”
