In a bid to address the persistent criminal activities plaguing the Otedola Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Adegoke Fayoade, has initiated a decisive crackdown on the notorious syndicates wreaking havoc in the area.
The attention of law enforcement was drawn to the notorious bridge due to its history of fatal accidents and violent attacks by hoodlums targeting motorists. Commissioner Fayoade swiftly mobilized a specialized team led by Chief Superintendent of Police Tokunbo Abaniwonda to confront the criminal elements operating in the vicinity.
During a daring sting operation, CSP Abaniwonda and her team encountered significant resistance from the criminal syndicate, resulting in a near-fatal confrontation. Despite sustaining injuries in the line of duty, the police team remained resolute in their mission to apprehend the perpetrators.
The leader of the criminal gang, identified as Tochukwu Nonso, disclosed chilling details of their operations to Crime Guard reporters. Nonso admitted to orchestrating over 100 robberies targeting motorists, primarily under the cover of darkness on the Otedola Bridge. He confessed to employing ruthless tactics, including wielding cutlasses to coerce victims into surrendering their valuables.
Nonso, who is known as "Thug Life" within the gang, recounted his criminal journey, detailing encounters with law enforcement and the financial gains derived from their illicit activities. He admitted to engaging in drug use sporadically but emphasized that it did not hinder his participation in criminal activities.
The arrest of Nonso and his accomplices marks a significant victory for law enforcement in their ongoing efforts to restore safety and security to the Otedola Bridge area. The apprehended suspects will face the full weight of the law as they are processed for prosecution, serving as a stern warning to other criminal elements operating in the region.
