The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Victor Babayemi, said in a statement on Friday that two coffins, four guns and ammunition were recovered from the suspect.
The PPRO said Ajayi, 39, who lives at 24, Orire Street in Adebayo area in Ado-Ekiti was arrested in his hideout.
The police said the suspect was part of the gang that robbed at Akannasan, Iyin/Ado-Ekiti Road on May 18.The gang was said to have snatched a Golf Volkswagen car at Akannasan and killed the owner.
A police officer, who was travelling to Iyin Ekiti from Ado Ekiti, was reportedly shot and wounded in the operation.
The suspect was also said to have taken part in a robbery that took place on June 5 at Ode Ekiti in Gbonyin Local Government where a Toyota Highlander Jeep was snatched at gunpoint.
Ajayi told reporters that he joined the gang in April and had particiated in four operations.
The suspecet, who said he was a driver of the gang, however, said he did not kill in anyone during the operations.
The statement read in part, “He confessed to leading the gang that robbed at Akannasan, Iyin-Ado-Ekiti Road on May 18, 2012 where an officer was critically wounded, robbed and dispossessed of his service pistol.
“The suspect also confessed to the robbery that took place on June 5th 2012 at Ode-Ekiti where a Toyota Highlander Jeep was snatched at gunpoint.”
