Chelsea are coming off of a full week’s rest after losing to Manchester United and igniting yet another CRISIS. Manchester City are not-so-fresh (we hope) from a double drubbing of Arsenal, on Sunday, in the Carabao Cup final and then again on Thursday in the Premier League, scoring three without conceding in both matches.
They have a 16-point lead on everyone else, they’re strolling to the title and Pep Guardiola says they need to improve.
“I was delighted for the victory against Arsenal, but ahead of the game against Chelsea we will be showing the players the last 10 minutes of the first half and the first 20 minutes of the second half of that game because if that was in the Champions League then we would be out.
“We lost some of the control and we didn’t know what we should do – of course we are so happy with the win, but sometimes we have to let them know that we are not good enough and not let them think ‘we are perfect’.”
This could get ugly. Or it could be glorious. After the frustrations of the Barcelona draw and the Manchester United loss, can Chelsea clinch a famous victory?
Alvaro Morata is a doubt with a back problem having struggled on his return to the line-up against Manchester United last week.
David Luiz, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Ross Barkley are all working their way back to full fitness, though this game could come too soon for them.
Ethan Ampadu is also a doubt having limped off against Feyenoord in the UEFA Youth League win over Feyenoord last week.
