Forum / The Buzz Central / Kefee to be Laid to Rest on Friday 11th July In Sapele, Read The Tributes To Her |
on: 3-07-2014 05:37 PM
| The late Nigerian pop gospel singer Kefee – Irikefe Don-Momoh nee Obareki, would be buried on Friday 11th July 2014 in her hometown – Okpara-Inland, Ethiope East Local Government, Delta State. The “Branama” singer was 34. Her family disclosed the information to members of the Kefee Memorial Committee – a collection of artistes and entertainment personalities – who paid a condolence visit to the late singer’s parents in their Sapele, Delta State home on Wednesday 2nd July 2014. On Thursday, her publicist in Lagos released a statement stating her husband, Teddy Don-Momoh who has been making arrangements to bring her body back from the U.S., would arrive the country first to receive her body before taking her down to Delta State for burial. Teddy earlier indicated that his wife’s family had requested that she be buried in their hometown, with a celebratory service in Sapele afterwards and he was comfortable with the arrangement. The condolence team who travelled to Sapele from Lagos included Sammie Okposo, Nikki Laoye, Annie Ibrahim, Gordons, Princess, Linda Etukudo, Rex Anighoro, Noah Momodu, Covenant and Chika 100%. Sammie, who spoke on behalf of the committee, told Kefee’s family that the delegation was in Sapele to commiserate with them on their loss and harmonise the arrangements of the Kefee Memorial Committee with the preparations of her family. He expressed his sadness to be visiting on such a mission but that the contributions of their daughter to the entertainment industry meant that entertainers in Nigeria wanted to celebrate and pay their last respects to one of their own. “We will perform the last respects we owe our sister to the best of our abilities. We will let the world know that a queen was here and she will always be celebrated.
She brought peace, happiness and love to the world even in her passing and even though we are heartbroken, we will be comforted in the fact that God knows best and we cannot question him”, he said Anny, a gospel artiste and close friend of Kefee, spoke of how Kefee introduced her into the entertainment industry and said that she had stopped mourning but was now celebrating Kefee’s life. Comedian Princess Dammy, said, “Kefee was a huge gift put in a small container for all of us and we didn’t even know how powerful she was. She made such a huge impact in her short life that some men of 50 years have not achieved. You are a lucky man to have had her as your child,” she told Kefee’s father. Nikki Laoye, a gospel artiste spoke of their friendship and further shared, “Kefee was a fighter and unapologetically passionate about her music and her art. Till her last breath, she spent her time and energy sharing her message of love, strength and peace across the world.” She promised the family that the entertainment industry would continue to support them and prayed for their continued good health, especially, in times like this. Other members of the delegation spoke in the same vein and afterwards Kefee’s father, Andrew Obareki thanked them for the visit. He said the visit had reduced their grief and prayed that God would continue to guide and guard the entertainment industry so there will be no similar occurrences like the untimely death of his daughter. “I stand on the authority of the word of God and use the key of David to shut the gates of death from the entertainment industry; there shall be no more sudden, tragic, premature and untimely deaths. “I’m glad Kefee touched the lives of many and her memory will continue to live on. Sometimes it’s not easy to give God thanks but we have no choice”, he said | | |

Forum / The Buzz Central / Wole Soyinka - Christianity & Islam are Foreign Impositions [Watch Video] |
on: 3-07-2014 02:36 AM
| Nigerian acclaimed author, playwright and Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka who turns 80 in two weeks, speaks to Reuters about the Islamist militant sect Boko Haram, as well as religion. Soyinka in his Abeokuta home told Tim Cocks that Nigeria is suffering greater carnage at the hands of Boko Haram. He also said their mission is far worse than the Biafra war from 1967 to 1970 which saw lots of bloodshed. We have never been confronted with butchery on this scale, even during the civil war, he begins. There were atrocities which were committed, but you never had such a regular, getting to a near predictable level of carnage. I think this is what is terrifying. Theres no war zone. Theres no battle line. Its everywhere. Not just in the North East for instance, its here, right here where we are sitting. Its right down in Lagos, even though it has not manifested itself. On if Boko Haram can make Nigeria split, he stated that, I think ironically its less likely now. For the first time, a sense of belonging is predominating. Its either we stick together now or we break up, and we know it would be not in a pleasant way. Soyinka also blamed successive governments for allowing religious fanaticism to undermine Nigerias broadly secular constitution, starting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo allowing some states to declare Sharia law in the early 2000s. When the spectre of Sharia first came up, for political reasons, this was allowed to hold, instead of the president defending the constitution. he said. He argued that modern Africa has lots its shape and sees both Christianity and Islam as foreign impositions. We cannot ignore the negative impact which both have had on African society. They are imperialist forces: intervening, arrogant. Modern Africa has been distorted. | | |

Forum / Politics / Ekiti Election Was Not Free And Fair But Through Strategy Of Force.. -Shehu Sani |
on: 24-06-2014 04:49 PM
| A northern-based rights activist and President of the Civil Rights Congress of Nigeria, Mallam Shehu Sani said on Tuesday [June 24] that the June 21 governorship election in Ekiti State could not be said to be free and fair as being adjudged. Sani, in a statement to PUNCH correspondents in Kaduna on Tuesday, said the election could not be free and fair when the government of the day used security operatives to harass and intimidate political opponents to favour the ruling Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Mr. Ayo Fayose. The CRC’s boss noted that in the run off to that election, key APC figures, campaign managers as well as government functionaries were arrested, adding that a credible elections must be devoid of the use of force or coercion in any way. The pro-democracy activist warned that what happened in Ekiti must not happen in Osun State in during the forthcoming governorship poll in that state. “The PDP did not win Ekiti; they captured Ekiti through the strategy of force and inducement. Governor Kayode Fayemi’s acceptance of defeat is more for peace than for justice. Those in Abuja reveling in the victory over APC are simply toasting to the cruel triumph of might over morality. The will of the people cannot be said to be freely expressed with a record military planes hovering over the skies of Ekiti and soldiers on the ground,” he said. He urged Nigerians to rise up against what he described as ‘forces against democracy’ and be ready, prepared to defend their votes against the predatory ruling party backed by the state apparatus”. Sani, a senatorial aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in Kaduna State, said democratic and progressive forces in Nigeria should not tolerate the repeat of the Ekiti episode in 2015. He said, “Those who accepted, endorsed and embraced Ekiti elections as free and fair are by extension giving their imprint to the adoption of it in the 2015 general elections. “We fought and ended military rule in Nigeria. We will not tolerate its return through the backdoor. Drafting the military to supervise elections position them to partisanship, drags them into murky political waters and negatively affect their professionalism”. “The Ekiti election was neither free nor fair irrespective of the acceptance of Governor Kayode Fayemi. The cruelty and Brigandage by the security apparatus in the days to the election created an atmosphere of fear, apprehension and intimidation that can in no reasonable assessment be considered as fair. | | |

Forum / Sports / Manchester City Stopped Me From Spending Time With My Late Brother – Yaya Toure |
on: 24-06-2014 12:19 PM
| Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure, has claimed that Manchester City stopped him from spending time with his younger brother, Ibrahim, who passed away last week. “I confess that I am still very sad. I¹m suffering because I feel I have done nothing useful for him the last few weeks,” Yaya said in an interview with sports newspaper France Football. “At the end of the season, I wanted to stay for four or five days with my brother before I flew to prepare for the World Cup with Ivory Coast, except that City did not want to give me a few days. “I went to celebrate the title championship in Abu Dhabi while my brother was in his sickbed. By fortune, Kolo was at his bedside. After that I blame myself for not insisting and for not leading them to respect me. “However, club officials knew that I had been suffering for a few months seeing the health of my brother decline. This is the reason I had several injuries at the end of the season, because my head had taken control of my body. These last four months have probably been the hardest in my life. “I have had sporting success, except that when you get home and you find yourself facing the distress of someone you love, but you do not know how you can help, it¹s not good.” Toure, who had previously criticized City for not celebrating his birthday, says the “beautiful party” of the World Cup ended for him on Thursday, when he got the bad news. “For sure, doctors had left me with very little hope when I had left for the World Cup. During those days, he could not even respond to my calls, he was so tired. “I also felt that brother Ismael and my sister Aicha, who had stayed with him in Manchester, were not telling me everything the last few days. Despite that, in these cases we always try and hold on to a miracle. “The news came as a huge shock because I was very close to him. We spent two years apart but we were very close. As kids we always stuck together and we played in the famous local tournaments that were never-ending. “I wonder how I¹ll cope without him. I know that I will no longer be able to hear him, sense him, see him, this feels awful, especially when you¹re thousands of kilometres away. “Luckily, I have Kolo with me. More than once, he has played big brother to me, finding the words to comfort me, keep me strong, talk to me. “At one point, we thought about leaving Brazil for Manchester to see Ibrahim one last time. But our father advised against it and we listened.” | | |
