Professor of biotechnology at Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Sylvia Uzochukwu, has warned Nigerians against unrestrained consumption of catfish pepper soup.

Professor Uzochukwu, who said this while delivering the 41st inaugural lecture of the institution, disclosed that there were a lot of health dangers inherent in the unrestrained consumption of catfish. This, she said, was because catfish lacks the much-needed omega3 oil...

She claimed the oil is good for human health. Rather than eat catfish, she urged Nigerians to eat sardine, which, according to her, contained high concentration of omega 3 oil.

In the lecture titled “Biotechnology Capacity Building: The Gateway to Food Security,” the professor also canvassed for improved food security through biotechnology.

She lamented Africa’s failure to join the green revolution, as well as the new gene revolution. This, she said, could be done by investing more on agricultural research and innovation, especially in Nigeria.

A teacher from the Grand Rapids Public School System in Michigan turned herself in to police Thursday night after being accused of having sex with her students, WZZM 13 reports.’

Jamila Love Williams, 35, was booked at the The Kent County Jail just before 6 p.m. She was charged with counts of third-degree criminal segxwal conduct, all of which are felonies. No bond was set. More victims have come forward since Williams was charged, so the algebra teacher could face additional charges. Williams, a teacher at University Prep Academy for four years, was first accused of having s*x with two students.

The Kent County Prosecutor’s office authorized warrants for four counts of third degree criminal segxwal conduct against the teacher. Allegedly, she segxwally assaulted two boys–ages 15 and 16–at various locations in Grand Rapids over the past three months. After the police’s investigation into Williams’ conduct became public, more alleged victims have come forward. The prosecutor’s office is reviewing those cases.

Michigan Live reports that Williams has confessed to having sex with at least two boys. The 16-year-old victim says he had s*x with Williams at his home, a park, her car and other locations. The 15-year-old victim claims he and Williams had s*x in her car and even in an allay.

Williams has four children, ages 19, 13, 9, and 3, and twin step-children, age 16. She has been placed on administrative leave.

If convicted, Williams could face up to 15 years in prison.

The alleged coup was uncovered by forces loyal to Abacha, and Diya and his cohorts were jailed. Diya was tried in a military tribunal, and was given the death penalty.

When she was in form 3, she met a student-teacher from Moi University in Eldoret, Kenya who lured her into a relationship. The teacher was on a teaching practice at her school but he had not yet graduated from university. Their relationship flourished and they went on to have unprotected sex.

She was in pain that she has lost her future. It is at this time that she decided to go on a HIV spreading spree at Moi University claiming that it is there where she got it and in the same place, she will leave it!

In the process, she managed to spread the virus to about 120 male students in her first semester. She slept with 124 students but only 4 used a condom. She later released a list of the infected student’s names and their admission numbers.

A 20-year old man, Monday Akanni, who was arrested in Mushin, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, has confessed in court that he had no other business except robbing people of their belongings in Lagos and its environs.
Akanni, who hails from Badagary and lives at 12, Ashawokun Street, Olosa, Mushin, pleaded guilty to the charge of felony to wit, robbery and attempted robbery before Ijeshatedo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Also a locally made pistol which he used for armed robbery operations was recovered from him and tendered as exhibit before the court.

It was learnt that the police from SARS at Alakara Division arrested Akanni along Agege Motor Road, Mushin during their random stop and search in the area when they found in his possession the gun wrapped in a nylon bag.

When asked why he was in possession of the gun at the station, it was reported that he confessed that he used the gun to hustle because robbery was his business.

When he was arraigned in court, he wept bitterly and explained that he promised to marry his fiancée this year and was hustling to raise money for that purpose before he was arrested.

Akanni told the court that he joined armed robbery gang at a tender age immediately he completed his primary school education in Badagry and had no opportunity to attend secondary school.

“I learnt tailoring for four years but I did not have money to open my shop. So one day I followed my brother, Tunde, to Mushin to hustle and since then, I have been in Mushin,” he said.

He said when he first got to Mushin; he did menial jobs to make ends meet. He was a load carrier and later a bus conductor before he became a full time armed robber.

Akanni said he was introduced into armed robbery by some men he met at a joint where he went to smoke indian hemp.

According to him, the men introduced him to ‘bad guys’ in the area and they started working together before they formed a three-man robbery gang.

He identified two other members of the gang as KG and Alobo and said their meeting points were at Akala and Akinbaiyi axis in Mushin.

Akanni said the gun recovered from him belonged to KG who gave it to him before he was arrested.

He said he promised the police to assist them expose other members of the gang and how they operate in Mushin area including their armoury with the assurance that he would be set free. But he said that the police betrayed him and charged him to court.

Akanni said he was not sure whether he had killed anybody or not, but confessed that he had injured some people during their operations.

“I don’t think I have killed anybody but I know I have attacked some victims during operations just to rob them of their belonging,” he said.

He revealed that there are other armed robbery gangs in Mushin with sophisticated weapons and armoury and the most dreaded gang is the one led by a disabled man popularly known as Opi.

Following the confession he made in in court, the prosecutor, Inspector E. Ayorinde, informed the court that he wanted to amend the charge and seek for an adjournment.

The court subsequently granted his request and ordered that Akanni should be remanded in Kirikiri Prisons in Lagos.

Mr Austin Osakue, the Executive Director of Foundation for Good Governance and Social Change, has claimed that the autopsy report on the killing of Ibrahim Momodu revealed that “three gunshots went into the late Ibrahim through the back, tore the heart and exited through the chest.”

Ibrahim Momodu, a final year student of University of Benin, was allegedly shot by the Divisional Police Officer of Ogida police station, Mrs Carol Afebgai and buried before anyone could raise eyebrows as to the deceased’s whereabout.

Osakue, who was a guest on Channels Television breakfast programme – Sunrise Daily, disclosed that the DPO (Carol Afebgai) was on tape where she alluded to shooting the deceased in self-defense as he attempted to shoot at a policeman.

According to Mr Osakue, “the DPO”s statement saying he (Ibrahim) was shot in self-defense and the autopsy report, shows that the DPO is lying.”

The civil rights activist raised the alarm on a purported move by the police authorities to shift the blame of the alleged murder from the DPO to her orderly.

“There has been an attempt to shift burden of prove from the DPO to Corporal Amadi – an aide to the DPO and he is presently in detention” Osakue stated, while noting that the DPO has been redeployed.

He described the redeployment of the DPO as “an attempt to give a lead way to escape for the DPO.

In his words: “If we have on tape, a woman who confesses to have shot another on self-defense, redeployment is not the issue but complete suspension from the proceedings, she is still in position to influence whatever proceedings there may be.”

A tenant identified as Uzodinma Eneh has been arrested by the Enugu State Police Command for allegedly stabbing his co-tenant, Prince Uzor, to death at their Aguabor residence in Trans Ekulu area of Enugu.

Uzor was allegedly stabbed with a knife by the suspect following a hot argument that ensued between them over sharing of electricity bill incurred by the tenants.

Sympathizers promptly rushed the victim to the Parklane Specialist Hospital, but he died shortly after arriving the hospital.

Confirming the incident, state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, said the suspect was already helping the police in their investigation.

Sarah Mojisola Sowole, popularly known as CoCoIce, is a born rap star. The “It’s me” crooner has, no doubt, brought swags into the entertainment industry. In this interview with SEYI SOKOYA, the Ogun State- born lady, speaks on her music and fashion preferences. Excerpts:

Foray into music.
I have always liked to listen to music ever since I was a kid. I later stumbled upon rap music and discovered it was a call. I took it up and started memorising the lyrics of some rap songs that I liked. Not long after, I started writing poetry, which greatly helped me to become a lyricist. Though I started out miming to hit rap songs, I went professional in 2005 and recorded my first single titled “Get Nutty,” where I featured May D. The single got a massive airplay and carved a niche for me in the industry.

Challenges in the industry.
It has not been easy. I was disappointed and let down. I went through the ups and downs, but to me, it is all part of the journey to my success story, and I give thanks to God, my family (the CoCoIce team) and fans for their support all the way.

My works.
I just released a new single entitled “Mr player” Aside the two videos “If You Don’t Know” and “It’s Me” that brought me into limelight, I have some singles to my credit. I have done a few collaborations and at present, I am working on new songs also. I had another single on the way with May D entitled: “Get Nutty” when I was under the Mo’Blaq.

How I came about my stage name.
(Laughs...) CoCoIce was derived from two words, ‘Coconut and Ice’. The coconut stands for what I have gone through but I’m still able to deliver good music because as we all know, the coconut is rough on the outside and pure in the inside, while the ice stands for breaking of the ice which is an idiomatic expression and in my definition- “getting over the initial phase of my career.” When I was trying to beat the odds and come out on top.

My style of music.
The inspiration behind my uniqueness was due to the desire to standout from the crowd. I wanted to be different from every other female artiste and eventually came up with something that was interesting.

Educational background.
I had my primary education at Ewenla Nursery and Primary School, Lagos and also Kiddies Kingdom Private School, Lagos. My secondary education was at Kankon and two other schools. I studied Mass Communication at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), but I was unable to complete my degree. I had to drop out due to financial constraints. At present, efforts are in top gear to return to school.

Definition of style.
Style for me is an expression, it is how one expresses oneself. Well, I have heard people say my dress sense is edgy, but I am comfortable with it and the fact that it is being talked about means I’m making a statement.

Description of self.
You can say that I am loving and God-fearing. I love to remain the way I am, I love my way of life because I am definitely sure that I am perfectly created.

Beauty regimen.
I eat fruits a lot and drink lots of water too. I exfoliate my skin weekly. When it comes to make-up, lip balms and Rogue by Black Up are my favourites. I use Flori Roberts’s powder. I love my eye lashes, but I glam it up with false lashes.

Choice accessories.
I love my rings. I have two facial piercings, my eyebrow and my lips. Chains are also part of my favourite accessories. My sneakers are my best foot friends because they feel so comfy. My jackets too are not left out; it is part of my signature. I love my jackets, I just do less jackets nowadays because a presenter said “you can’t find me without a jacket,” It felt good, but I said to myself, I need to express myself in different ways so my fans can see the real CoCoIce.

Accessories I can’t do without.
I really can’t do without wrist watches, rings and mobile phones. I like my wrist watches; Hublot, Rolex, Christian Dior and BCBG.

Most expensive items in my wardrobe.
My shoes and my wrist watches. They are things I cannot do without and they are so dear to me.

Favourite designers.
London High Street, Michael Kors, Asos, Gucci, Max Mara, to mention a few, are my favourite designers.

Favourite colour.
I love black, pink and turquoise blue because they speak volume on me.

Favourite perfumes.
My favourite perfume right now is Fantasy by Britney Spears.

What I won’t be caught dead wearing.
Multi-coloured velvet dress because it is not just something I will feel comfortable in.

Opinion on provocative dressing.
I feel people express themselves differently and everybody has a right to her life and what she is comfortable in. I have discovered that when people dress provocatively, it doesn’t mean they are bad people. People dress provocatively for different reasons, some do it for professional reasons and some use it to entice the opposite sex. I am not in support of it. However, it is a free world.

Opinion on toning and cosmetic surgery.
Personally, I love cosmetic surgery especially, Bosom  enlargement and I am planning to have boobs surgery in the nearest future. Yes, having Bosom  enlargement is a desire. It is not that I am not gifted; I am actually endowed with Bosom s that fit my body, but I am an Oliver Twist, where Bosom  is concerned. But as for toning, I am indifferent to it, because most of the beauty products have toning ingredients.

Special treat.
I go to the spa for body massage. That way, my body feels appreciated and special.

Hair and nail.
I make my nails in any shape and design that go with my mood and the style in vogue. My hair is something else because I do crazy stuffs, with my hair, I tint it with different colours.

Tattoo.
I do not have any tattoo neither do I have cat eyes. I only use coloured contact lens most times.

Exercise.
I work out five times a week and as you can see I am very fit.

Part of my body I will always love to flaunt.
(Laughs....) I really love to flaunt my boobs. It is the section I cherish.

Greatest physical asset.
My thighs and lips.

How I cope with advances from men.
It is a normal thing for men to approach me, I appreciate good men. God has given me wisdom to handle them in a polite manner.

Dream man.
I have always desired a God-fearing, ambitious and handsome man. A man with potentials .

In a shocking incident, police in India on Friday arrested a bridegroom for molesting a guest at his own wedding.

According to BhaskerNews, the 23-year-old victim was raped by the bridegroom hours before his wedding on June 3.

He had taken advantage of the crowd that came for his wedding and dragged the girl into a secluded corner of the guest house.
He forced her to drink cola laced with drugs. This got her unconscious and unable to raise an alarm, he then forcefully raped her.

The victim couldn't tell anyone about the rape for two days but she eventually approached their local police with a relative after all the marriage rituals were over.

The bridegroom was arrested on Friday and has been booked under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ogida station, CSP Carol Afegbai, has denied firing the shot that killed alleged final year student of University of Benin, Ibrahim Momodu, on May 27th during a stop and search in Benin.

According to the Edo State Police PRO, a Russian made double barrel gun with eight rounds of cartridges, two loaded in the gun, were found on Ibrahim (pictured above). Ibrahim's family and friends are protesting his death, denying claims he was an armed robber. Ibrahim was shot on the 27th of May and buried the next day by the police without his family being informed.

According to CSP's Carol's husband, her orderly PC Amadi Idahosa shot and killed Ibrahim when the deceased allegedly tried to reach into his bag to pull out his weapon and harm the corporal who was conducting the stop and search along Siloku road by Obayuwana junction, Benin that Monday night.

The Governor of Edo State, Governor Adams Oshiomhole and the Inspector General of Police, have ordered probe into the case to unravel the real circumstances that led to the killing.

Police arrest shoe maker with human parts in Ibadan




RESIDENTS of Soka area, along Ire-Akari Estate, Ibadan, Oyo State, were shocked to hear that one of them, a popular shoe maker in the area, Mr Kazeem Bamidele, also known as Kazzy International Shoe Works, had been arrested with human parts.

Saturday Tribune learnt that Bamidele was arrested on Monday night in connection with alleged murder of a Northerner, said to be an okada rider. The police, it was gathered, led him to his wooden shop on Friday morning and, according to sources, discovered fresh human head and legs of the victim where they were kept inside a bush behind his shop.

Sources further informed Saturday Tribune that Bamidele and his accomplice were busy perpetrating this criminal act on Sunday, around 1.00 a.m, when two vigilance members serving as security officers in the area became suspicious, and asked them why they stayed so late in the night.

According to sources, the vigilance group members saw two people around the bushy path in the area, one holding a knife while the other was holding a gun.

The two vigilance group members were said to have been surprised to see one of the two men aiming his gun at them. The vigilance group members then demanded to know what their mission was in that area at that time of the day.

A source told Saturday Tribune: “On that fateful day, some members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) who are also vigilance men in this area saw the man (Bamidele) with another man in the night. When the OPC men asked them what they were doing in the middle of the night, one of them who was holding a knife told them that he wanted to use it to cut coconut. His partner was holding a gun.

“We were told that the OPC men had to confront them that almost everybody living around the area knew them as security guys; that the suspects themselves could not deny that they knew them. After minutes of conversation, Bamidele and his partner could not hold it again, giving the OPC men opportunity to move close to them. That was what gave them the opportunity to look through where they discovered what they were doing.

“They saw a body of a human being whose head and arms had been cut off. They (Bamidele and accomplice) were still trying to cut something from the victim’s throat. The area was littered with blood, and at that point, the OPC men raised an alarm, arrested them and attempted to invite the police.”

Police sources confirmed the development and informed Saturday Tribune that the suspects were currently under interrogation.
