1  Forum / Relationships & Romance / WAKE UP CALL! Wife sues ex-husband for neglecting child on: 7-06-2012 09:50 PM

A woman, Mrs Abigail Amadikwah has dragged her ex-husband  Benson Amadikwah before an Abuja Customary Court for alleged negligence.

Abigail told the court that her former husband abandoned her with a three-month pregnancy in Abuja after their traditional marriage and went to live in Port Harcourt.

The petitioner said the ex-husband refused to give her money to register for ante-natal at the Maitama Hospital, Abuja, which led to various health complications during the pregnancy.

“I went through a lot of stress during the pregnancy. I was contracting when the pregnancy was just five months old.

“I suffered malnutrition, I was always dizzy and had a whole lot of other ailments’’

She claimed that Benson did not have any regard for the unborn child and never cared if the child was developing as expected or not.

“I later delivered the baby alive and the baby is now one year and five months old,’’ she said, noting that since the delivery of the baby, the husband neither came to see the child nor cared to know how he was doing.

Abigail pleaded with the court to grant her custody of the child.

She also appealed to the court to compel her ex husband to pay the sum of N50,000 monthly for the up-keep of the child.

“He should equally provide shelter for the child and also enrol him in school,” she added.

In his defence, Benson told the court that the distance between him and the former wife made it impossible for him to visit the child, adding that Port Harcourt was too far from Abuja.

He rejected the amount requested, saying that he could only pay N12, 300 monthly “ since I will also enrol the child in a school”

In his judgement, the presiding judge, Mr Suleiman Ismaila, granted the mother custody of the child and ordered Benson to take full responsibility of maintenance in addition to enrolling the child in school.

It will be recalled that the couple were officially separated by the court on March 27. (NAN)

This is a wake up call for African men who manufacture kids without taking care of them. In developed coutries, you'll be legally responsible for child's support.

4  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Woman accuses husband of using their daughter for rituals on: 7-06-2012 06:47 PM

Basirat Oluwole, a middle-aged woman, told a Magistrate Court in Abeokuta on Wednesday, that her husband, Tajudeen, has kept bones of one of their daughters months after she died.

Testifying in the court, during hearing in a divorce suit instituted against her by her husband, Basirat accused Tajudeen of engaging in fetish rituals and agreed that the marriage should be annulled.

She said her husband took possession of the bones of one of her twin children who died shortly after birth. According to her, many months after the death of her baby, she discovered the bones, wrapped in paper, with the inscription ‘Eegun Kehinde’ (Kehinde’s bone), inside her husband’s wardrobe.

“I want to passionately appeal to court to help retrieve the dried bone of our deceased twin baby from him,” she said. “The baby died before her naming ceremony, but her twin sister is still alive. I don’t even know where the corpse was buried.”

Tajudeen denied the allegations, adding that his wife is quarrelsome.

The couple, in their individual submissions, asked the court to dissolve the 17-year-old marriage. Both are, however, fighting for custody of the children.

The judge, Israel Fajebe, declined to address the accusation of fetish rituals, saying that the court’s role is only to address matrimonial affairs. He dissolved the marriage and referred the child custody issue to Juvenile Court.
5  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Mother Of Five Sells 3 Of Her Kids @ Mammy Market on: 7-06-2012 06:39 PM

A mother of five kids, Mrs Ijeoma Okafor, resident in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, has reportedly sold three out of her five kids.

The 39-year old woman had been on the trail of the police after she sold two of her kids and was eventually arrested after she sold the third one.
Police sources at State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos said she confessed to selling two of her kids at the Mammy Market, Navy Town before the third one.

She was arrested and charged to Yaba Magistrate’s court with child trafficking and trade.
Ijeoma was charged along with her other accomplices, Nkechi Eke, 37, and Benjamin Uche, 40, who facilitated the deal.
They are remanded at Ikoyi Prison, Lagos, after they were arraigned before the court.

We gathered that their activities were exposed when Ijeoma, who delivered a child 12 months ago, contacted them that she wanted to sell the boy.
They arranged with a buyer at a Mammy Market in Navy Town where they had earlier sold the last two kids.

They were arrested and handed over to the police in the area. The matter was later transferred to SCID. They were charged to court where they pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O. Taniwola granted them bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The matter was adjourned till 21 June, 2012, while they were remanded in prison custody at Ikoyi, Lagos pending when they will meet their bail conditions.

6  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / "Nigeria’s airspace is the safest in the world" - Aviation Minister on: 7-06-2012 05:38 PM

Minister of Aviation Stella Oduah says the Nigerian airspace is the safest in the world.

The minister stated this while fielding questions from State House Correspondents in Abuja on Wednesday.

She said that air transportation in the country remained the safest mode of transportation and debunked the insinuation in some quarters that the Nigerian airspace was not safe for both local and international flights.

“We want to also use this opportunity to tell Nigerians and to assure them that air transportation is still the safest mode of transportation. Our airspace is very, very safe.

“I listen and I hear people say our airspace is not safe, that is not true. We have the safest airspace in the world. We are very, very safe. What happened had nothing to do with the safety nets of our airspace, absolutely not. It doesn’t.

“And so I want to assure Nigerians that what happened on Sunday will not reoccur by the grace of God.

“We will do everything humanly possible to ensure that we enhance our safety policies and procedures and we are doing that now to ensure that NCAA becomes much, much stronger and their regulatory oversight duty is enhanced.

“With all the approvals we have gotten and with the transformation measures that is currently ongoing in addition to institutional reforms that we have started since the transformation commenced about a year ago, is on course.

“All these are to ensure that we have safe aviation sector in Nigeria.”

Oduah announced that the current airline economic regulatory regime would be reviewed in the next three months to make it more effective, current and relevant to the country’s safety needs.

According to her, the economic regulatory aspect of Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) will be strengthened to monitor domestic airlines on a regular basis.

“So, whenever we see signs that indicate danger we will be able to either shut down the airline or take precautionary actions so that we don’t get into a very bad situation.

“The safety measure in aviation is like the cardinal; it is not negotiable; it is not subject to discussion; it is what must be done and it is what is done on a regular basis; everything is safety.”

On the inability of government to release past reports on air disasters in the country, the minister gave the assurance that the reports would soon be made available to the public after obtaining the necessary approval from relevant authorities.

“When we get the proper approval to release the reports to the public, we will do so because it serves no purpose to keep it; it is for public knowledge, because there are lessons we should learn from such incidences and not allow it to recur; that is the purpose.”

Oduah revealed that the Black Box recovered from the crashed plane in Lagos would be sent to the United States on Thursday for thorough investigation of the crash

8  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / GHOSTS SCARE: Residents Of Dana Plane Crash Site Afraid Of Ghosts on: 7-06-2012 05:20 PM

According to a report from NAN, some residents of Iju-Ishaga, a suburb of Lagos, where a Dana airline crashed into buildings on Sunday, have appealed to the authorities to bury the victims far from the area. Their apprehension was based on their belief in the existence of ghosts, Idayatu Ali, a 24-year-old unemployed school leaver, said living around the scene of the crash, was superstitious and would not want the victims buried at the scene of the accident, “for fear of ghosts”. According to her, human beings are no goats and when they die prematurely, especially, violently, their ghosts will haunt the scene for a while. “This is no superstition; I have witnessed where a young man died in an accident and his ghost continued to cry at the scene for days until a sacrifice was performed. “Please, tell them not to bury the victims here or else some of us will have to abandon our houses,” she pleaded.

However, Jude Agwu, a commercial motorcyclist, said he and some colleagues could easily offer sacrifices to Ogun (the Yoruba god iron) in a bid to get rid of any ghost threat. Mr Iyiola Akande, the South-West Zonal Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), said no decision had been taken on where to bury the victims. He, however, believed that identifiable bodies should be released to their relations for burial, while badly burnt ones would be given mass burial, probably far from the scene. “This is a densely populated area and erecting a memorial here may not be in the interest of the psyche of the residents.

“This has nothing to do with the myth about ghosts,” Akande said at the scene of the crash. He also explained that a census of those living in the affected buildings—now demolished—would be taken soon to ascertain the number of those who died on the ground. Akande said this would also form part of the statistics for the full rehabilitation of the survivors and compensations to the families of those who lost their lives in the mishap. (NAN)

15  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / BOKO HARAM: 19 killed in north Nigeria violence on: 6-06-2012 03:21 PM

An hours-long gun battle punctuated by explosions rocked a northeast Nigeria city on Tuesday, as gunmen in another city in the country's Muslim north killed police officers in attacks that left at least 19 people dead, officials said.

The violence, which authorities blamed on a radical Islamist sect known as Boko Haram, targeted the cities of Kano and the northeastern city of Maiduguri, where the group once had its main mosque. The heaviest fighting occurred in Maiduguri, as soldiers fired on suspected sect members for several hours as bomb blasts echoed across the city, witnesses said.

Military spokesman Col. Victor Ebhaleme told journalists Tuesday night that all those killed were "Boko Haram terrorists" and that the military suffered no casualties on its side. Soldiers also recovered weapons and ammunition in the operation which targeted areas authorities believed served as hideouts for the sect in the arid, dusty city, Ebhaleme said.

However, a man who lives in the neighborhood where the fighting took place later said that some civilians had been struck stray bullets in the fighting.

"I almost got home, but I saw soldiers shooting and I had to run back on foot," the man said. He spoke on condition of anonymity as he feared angering either the military or Boko Haram.

The crowded neighborhood, called Lawan Bukar, is close to the palace of the region's traditional ruler, the Shehu of Borno. It also is an area where suspected Boko Haram members recently beheaded two civilians and shot dead a politician.

Meanwhile, in Kano, gunmen suspected to belong to Boko Haram opened fire and killed a retired deputy inspector-general of Nigeria's federal police, as well as two other officers in the city. Kano state police spokesman Rilwan Mohammed confirmed the attack took place, but declined to offer additional details.

Nigeria faces a growing wave of sectarian violence carried out by Boko Haram, whose name means "Western education is sacrilege" in the Hausa language of Nigeria's predominantly Muslim north. The sect has been blamed for killing more than 560 people this year alone, according to an Associated Press count. The sect's targets have included churches, often attacked by suicide car bombers.

Boko Haram, which speaks to journalists through telephone conference calls at times of its choosing, could not be immediately reached for comment Tuesday night. The sect most recently claimed responsibility for a suicide car bombing that struck a church in the northern state of Bauchi on Sunday that killed at least 15 people and wounded dozens more.

Nigeria, a nation of more than 160 million people, is divided between a largely Muslim north and Christian south. Boko Haram attacks have inflamed tensions between the two religions, though many in the faiths live peacefully with each other and intermarry in Africa's most populous nation.

I kept coming across tons of studies proving women have some amazing abilities that men lack. So, i rounded up some of our favorites. Grin Cheesy Tongue Roll Eyes Cool

1. We're cleaner.
men’s desks and offices are germier than women's. i discovered that men had anywhere from 10 to 20 percent more bacteria in their workspaces than women and scientists say it's because they tend to be less hygenic.

2. We interview better.
i found that women are better at handling the stress of a job interview.  while women get more freaked beforehand about interviewing, we do better in the actual event. Why? We prepare more before the big moment.

3. We evolve hotter.
women are getting better looking through evolution; meanwhile, men are staying the same. After following more than 2,000 people through four decades of life, the study showed that attractive women had 16 percent more children than average-looking chicks and that beautiful people are 36 percent more likely to have a daughter as their firstborn. All those gorgeous daughters mean more beautiful women than in past generations.

4. We survive car accidents more often.
This is sad but true: Men are 77 percent more likely to die in a car accident than women, Our Husbands/boyfriends should be thanking us when we nag them to "Wear your seatbelt!" (though Women cause the accident that kill most of the men  Grin)

5. We're better at seeking comfort.
A Mind survey of 2,000 people revealed that women are far more likely than men to talk through their problems. Fifty-three percent of women talk to their friends about what's stressing them out, as opposed to 29 percent of men.

6. We're more recession-proof.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 80 percent of those who have lost their jobs since December 2007 have been men. Ouch. This could be because male-dominated fields have been hit the hardest, like manufacturing and finance. That really sucks...but hey, maybe it's time more men became nurses and educators.

7. We graduate college more often.
We already know that female enrollment is higher than male, but the Department of Education's statistics reveal that men are also less likely than women to graduate and get their bachelor's degrees. Men are also more likely to take longer than five years to complete their degree.(who knows why)

8. We eat healthier.
A survey  showed that women choose far healthier foods than men. While men are more likely to chow down on frozen pizza and red meat, women are piling fruits and veggies onto their plates. It all sounds pretty obvious, but we get so much grief for our chocolate addictions that we just had to point this one out!

9. We have stronger immune systems.
No wonder men act like such babies when they have a sniffle  Grin women really do have stronger immune systems than men! If there are little battles going on in our bodies, women have a secret weapon: estrogen. A study  indicated that estrogen gives women an edge when it comes to fighting off infections. That's because estrogen confronts a certain enzyme that often hinders the body's first line of defense against bacteria and viruses. Cool

10. We live longer.  Tongue
Among the world's population of those who are over 100 years old, 85 percent are women, generally, women continue to live five to 10 years longer than men as well.

11. We're better managers, especially in this economy.
This one is a little controversial, but a slew of experts are confident that women make greater bosses because they are better listeners, mentors, problem solvers, and multitaskers than their male counterparts(for some tho). "It's a very service-oriented economy [right now], so you need employees to be motivated. Women are better connectors than men and more astute about knowing how to activate passion in their employees."

12. We invest better.
A study of 100,000 portfolios showed that women's investment returns outperform men's, 18 percent to 11 percent. This could be because women are typically more cautious with their investment decisions and think longer term.

R u 4kin kidding me? ur no. 1 is absolutely 100% wrong. Trust me dat flirt in dia work place. dia offices ar lyk paradise. Well, I don't kno much abt the odaz, but most Guys tek kia mur of dia Cars, offices, etc dan homes.

20  Forum / Relationships & Romance / WELCOME TO CALABAR! Young Man Dies During Sex Romp With Girlfriend on: 5-06-2012 04:57 PM
A young man aged about 30 reportedly died at the weekend in Calabar, the Cross River state capital, southsouth Nigeria, during a sex romp with his girlfriend. The man, whose name was given as Ete Samuel, was a resident of 14, Ekpo Abasi Lane in Calabar South, while his sex partner, Miss Peace Idorenyin is a resident of 16, Target Street, close to the Calabar Zoo.

The two chose the cheap “short time spot” located at Atu Street for early evening sex session before the incident happened. A source who witnessed the incident said he was called at about 5 p.m. by the owner of the short time spot to come and help him as he had a “situation which he alone could not handle. So as a good friend I had to get there fast. “When I got there, I went into the room and saw a young man on the floor with foam coming out of his mouth and I called the police who came and took the corpse to the mortuary and the lady to Atakpa Police Station”. “I did not kill him as many men have slept with me and they did not die and this was not the first time Ete Samuel was doing it with me.”

Accoding to her, she could have “escaped but since I know I am not the cause of his death, I had to wear him his trousers before calling people to help me.” She said she noticed that the man was shaking and she thought the man was about reaching orgasm “but when he did not make any move of coming down from my body after some time I pushed him and saw that he was foaming in his mouth.”
